WHO: Kurt Hummel and OPEN WHAT: Kurt is giving his car an oil change. That's right, all on his own. WHEN: Afternoon, 6/6. WHERE: In the parking lot outside of the complex. WARNINGS: There may be a slight bit of superiority complex involved.
Every so often the inevitable happens for car owners: time for an oil change. Kurt Hummel had options for dealing with this, of course. He could definitely afford to take it into a shop and get it done for him, he could ask his dad--a professional mechanic back in their world--to do it for him, or he could do it himself.
It's not often that Kurt would use the last option and decide to risk getting oil on his face, but this time it felt like it was necessary. Not to save money or anything, but to sort of... prove something to his dad, even if he wasn't saying that's what he was doing. Even though he had been living relatively on his own in Lawrence for several months, and had done it one other time before his reappearance in town, Burt Hummel still clearly thought of Kurt as a child, someone that he was unsure was able to take care of himself.
Not that Kurt could blame him, really. He was an only child, after all. And he wouldn't be eighteen until the end of July.
At least Burt hadn't tried to convince him that they needed to share one of the two bedroom apartments. They remained in the same building with Burt nearby, but Kurt was allowed to have his own space.
But still, Kurt wanted to show that he was capable of doing things on his own should he need to. Hence the oil change.
He had gotten the needed materials from the store (oil, a couple of car jacks so he could fit easily under the car, one of those little boards you lay back on with wheels, a pan, etc.) changed into his stylish cover-alls (no, really. They were fitted, hung perfectly off of him, and did have a bit of decoration to them), and headed out to the parking lot to get started. He found it slightly odd that he didn't see anyone else around as he jacked up his car, each jack placed securely near a front tire, and slid under the car, but nothing about Lawrence was ever normal.
