Kaylee burst out with a bright and cheery “Hi!” the moment the door opened, kind of talking over Simon asking if she needed something from him. It crossed her mind for just a moment that she should be very direct, but she wound up stammering quietly for a second or two.
“Nope, I just...” She trailed off for a moment, her enthusiastic smile still plastered on her face. She held up the bowl of strawberries just an inch or so higher. “Thought you might want some. They’re real good!” No one could turn down fresh strawberries, could they? Kaylee certainly wouldn’t and she hoped that Simon wouldn’t, either, or her efforts would seem kind of dumb and pointless.
“And we don’t...” What? Canoodle? Well, she couldn’t say that. “Talk too much anymore.” Kaylee was satisfied with her explanation, or at least was close to being satisfied.
