Who: Kaylee Frye and Simon What: Sharing strawberries as a way in Where: The apartment complex, specifically right outside of Simon’s apartment When: A little after dinner time.
Earth could be really fantastic, in some ways. One way that particularly delighted Kaylee was the availability of fresh produce, specifically strawberries. They grew so plump on Earth. She figured there must have been something in the ground they grew in that made them so big and shiny. In the summer months it seemed like the little red fruit was everywhere you looked! On the television, in the newspaper, and in bins at the grocery store. Kaylee took some of her money that was supposed to be for emergencies and declared that a craving for strawberries was an emergency.
Kaylee bought a little blue basket of them and brought them back to her apartment to wash them off and chop off the little green leafy bits. She dried them off and arranged them so nice in a little bowl she’d been using for the meals she fixed for herself, but this treat wasn’t just for her. She had planned to share them and with someone specific.
She smoothed out her hair, using some of the stuff from the hair salon to make it nice and shiny. A lot of her clothes had little grease stains from working on her car, but she’d picked out a pair of jeans that looked nice enough. Kaylee was out the door and on her way to see Simon.
Once at his apartment door, a million thoughts flooded into her mind, a lot of them only fueling a nervous and self-conscious state of mind. She was worried she’d seem to jittery, but it was now or never. Kaylee rapped at the door with her free hand.
