This was such a strange place for the girl. There were so many people, creatures more or less shaped like her, and they were all milling about together. She had never really interacted with anyone like her before, only the things that lived with her in her forest. Instead of scary, the girl found it all fascinating like a big dream that made no sense.
A little bit of a smile formed on her face when she saw the man approaching. The girl was trusting to a fault. Others might have been put off by his scar, assuming that he was a tough and dangerous sort of fellow. That might have even been true, but it never crossed the girl’s mind.
His words puzzled her. She figured out that they were directed to her, but she didn’t know what they meant. The girl knew communication as being sounds - The call of a bird, the howl of a wolf - not as these very specific words. She was a fish out of water in this place.
“Hi,” She repeated the monosyllabic greeting, still smiling just faintly. She didn’t know what it meant, but she kind of liked it. It was short and simple and easy to say. The girl decided that she might like some of the words being spoken.
