It was really by accident that Kon discovered he could finally be apart from his tether partner. He'd heard someone screaming again via super hearing, and by instinct flew off to take care of business. After he was finished doing his rescue hero thing he realized he'd gotten more then ten feet away and there was no searing pain. He wasn't sure if it was a mutual feeling, but the selfish part of him just didn't care and kept on flying. It felt good, no it felt amazing to be free. It wasn't that his partner was so bad really, it was just the idea of being tied down to any one person literally speaking was an uncomfortable feeling. He didn't like it. He was sure she couldn't have enjoyed it either. All the same he'd tried to make the best of it, that was just how he was. He always looked on the positive side of things, there was likely movie watching since it seemed to be the easiest thing to do when stuck with another person, get to know them by watching their favorite movies. It was a good tactic really. He needed to remember to use it on Allana later to figure out what her favorite stuff was. He knew some of her favorite things, but not enough. He wanted to know everything, and he was missing her. He hadn't seen her since the tether thing began, save for a dinner they had preplanned and dragged their partners to.

Kon had paid for the meal, Tish and Clark's as well by promising to finish doing his extra work during the week. It was at a little cafe that he had been helping through the week to get back on their feet. Since the bugs had shown up they had demolished many of the towns small businesses, and they couldn't afford to pay extra help. So Kon had taken Clark's advice and taken time off of patrol to just simply help around town instead. It was a break for him and help for them, a win win situation. Now though he felt nearly ready to be back on the streets. Still things were rough compare to prior to the Cade incident, but he was dealing. He couldn't let the anger control him or he would be like Lex. That was exactly who he fought his entire life not to be like.

Lex Luthor was the man behind his creation. Kon was built to be a weapon, a clone of both Luthor and Super DNA. It was successful obviously except for some areas. Kon resisted with every fiber of his being against Lex's internal programming, but there were still times it slipped through his carefully guarded emotions. He still didn't understand why some things were right and some were wrong. For example wanting to bash Cade's face in with every level of his alien strength was wrong, and he didn't understand. He only really understood that Clark said it was wrong. If Clark said it, it had to be correct.

He was still thinking about that time when he finally made his way into the kitchen to get an energy drink out of the refrigerator. He had barely managed to hold himself back from breaking a rapists arm while on the streets. It was scary. Sometimes he was scared about becoming Lex, and lately he was doing exactly that.

Twisting the can open he took a long drink from the rather unhealthy looking energy drink and just tried to relax. Tried to clear his mind of it.

Burt had discovered, quite by accident, that he could escape Ziva as well. He hadn't been trying to get far, or to get away with her, but his feet had just carried him and there was no blinding pain like before. He didn't want to be mean, but most of him felt incredibly glad that he wasn't tethered to the other woman anymore. He was sure that she was nice, and she took her job seriously, but she was difficult to be tethered to, that was certain. Burt hadn't wanted to go with her on her job anymore than she would have wanted to go with him, only she hadn't listened when Burt had said as much. So, being away from her felt like freedom. It felt good to not be dragged around and treated as if you were a burden.

Now that he had the freedom to go wherever he pleased, he didn't know anywhere he particularly wanted to go, actually. Just being able to get out and move without pain or anything lingering over you was nice enough, though. It was only on a whim that Burt made a beeline toward the communal kitchen that the complex shared for everyone. Sometimes there were treats of sorts there, but Burt wasn't going to eat anything. He was thirsty, though. Ever since the heart attack Kurt had been drilling it into him that he had to take care of himself and change the way that he ate and drank and it had been rubbing off even if Burt didn't want to do any of it. Hopefully there was some sort of healthy something to drink, but then again the walk did him well too, even if it might be for nothing.

As he entered the kitchen, Burt saw the teenage boy standing in there. The familiar teenage boy. Kon. The one that was super or whatever. Even if he was super, seeing the kid drinking an energy drink brought back all of the lists of things that he wasn't allowed to have himself....and that were horrible for you. "You know, those will give you heart attacks when you're older if you drink them too often." Burt stated, leaning against the doorway. "And let me tell you, they're not fun."

Kon was also enjoying his new found freedom without any real destination. Save for his patrolling, he really didn't have much else to do. Raising an eyebrow at the familiar voice not to far away, his lips curved upward into a tiny smirk. "Not being entirely human has it's advantages. " He replied calmly enough, more amused then anything really. "I'm pretty much immune to everything. You really don't need to worry about me. I may look human, but I'm not." It was a touchy subject for Kon, but he didn't need Burt worrying over him when there was no need to do so. Worrying would only make the potential for heart attacks a higher risk. Or so he assumed. He didn't want to cause the man anymore grief then he already had.

"I think there's some juice in the back of the fridge if you're brave enough to venture into the depths of the thing that's never been cleaned. " He mused trying to keep a light heart, it was what he was known for after all. As Superman's protege it sorta came with the territory, even with the heavy things that lurked on his mind. "Anyone ever tell you that you worry too much? " Leaning up against the counter, he took another long sip from the drink he held and shook his head.

Toying with the colorful aluminum packaging of the drink, he looked down into the bottle. "Enjoying your freedom?" He asked as he looked back up with a hint of a smile. "Heard you got tethered with the high strung Fed who needs to lay off the caffeine and trigger finger. But it could have been worse. You could have gotten Nathan. "

This whole not human thing just didn't get through to Burt really well. Kon looked like a teenager and he acted exactly like one too, so as far as Burt was concerned he should be treated like a teenager too, human or not. The older man shrugged a little bit. "Immune or not the stuff is still gross. You shouldn't drink it, it's a waste of money. Doesn't do anything for you anyway, does it?" Burt asked. HE wasn't too worried about Kon, really, but it was just his natural sort of instinct as a father. Burt worried about teenagers and kids that weren't his own because that was the kind of man that he was, the kind that cared.

Blinking at the information, Burt grinned a little. "Nah, I'm good, I've got stuff in my apartment, mainly just wandering." The older man filled him in without hesitating. It wasn't a secret that they were all probably happy about not being tethered anymore. As Kon told him that he worried to much, Burt chuckled. "I'm a parent, we all worry nonstop. IT's not something that you can get rid of." It was true too. There was never a time when you didn't feel some sort of worry for your child. Or for other kids that reminded you of your's.

Nodding at the question, Burt grinned. "More than I can tell ya, kid." He didn't even want to go into details about his time with Ziva. Suffice to say he was pretty glad that they weren't stuck together now. "Yeah, I did....and I think I might have preferred Nathan. He wouldn't have almost killed me as many times, I'm sure."

"Not this kind. It's kinda juice like actually. With just the bonus of keeping me up all night. " Kon folded his arms casually and smirked. "When an entire city rests on your shoulders at night, yeah it helps..and it helps that I don't pay for it. There's a cafe I've been working at also since the bug invasion. They pay me in energy drinks if I do all their heavy lifting. " He added a slight emphasis on the heavy lifting part.

"Wandering in this kitchen can be dangerous for even me and my super metabolism. " He added. Clark told him he could chat about his super powers with people in the complex, and ever since then he had been. He was taking full advantage of it. He knew if he ever did go back home it would be back to heavy secrets and double lives, so for now he was going to live to the fullest and enjoy every minute of it. "Didn't know. Never had parents. I mean I guess I had Clark and his parents, but they had enough to worry about without me dumping on them." Kon rarely confided in Martha and John Kent, he saw himself as an outsider even if they saw him as a son.

"Makes two of us. " He chimed. "I mean i get having to do your job, I mean I get being dedicated to the cause, but even I had to stop for the week. Tonight was my first night back. Though I'm starting to think I should ahve waited for Clark.." He trailed off and chewed at his lip, things hadn't gone well. He was a little worried. They hadn't been going well since the Cade incident. He was the unfortunate one to discovered the orphanage. Post discovery he had caught himself nearly falling off the wire a few times. In his line of work he knew it was unacceptable. Especially with his level of strength.
