Ruby watched from far enough back, the house containing the demons. They'd holed up, waiting for word from Lilith maybe, waiting to be ordered to leave the town, who knew. Lilith was already long gone once Ruby had warned her of the Hunters she'd had to convince Sam to send to kill them and keep her cover intact. Bobby's recommended Hunters. That worried her, it meant they'd be good. But she had Sam's orders too, get safe, get out as soon as she knew the task was in hand and if it all went to hell she was to call him so he could summon her away. And that was fine. That was perfectly fine with Ruby.

Except for the part where she really didn't want to have to deal with Dean trying to kill her again. So careful was the plan. She watched the house, she watched the demons pass the windows now and again in their new meatsuits. She had to be careful though, her own trail wasn't exactly hard to find with all the spells she'd been working. Hellfire left traces.

The call from Sam had come in good time she had to admit. The Hunters were in town, he'd communicated the address she'd given to him and stayed just long enough to hear the first screams of what could only be a typical combo of rock salt, holy water and Latin.

Poor demons, still they were going home. For a while at least. She was sure they'd enjoy themselves, the place just hadn't been the same since Azazel. Lilith's creativity ran a different way, all the baby blood that Earth could offer her would have been the ultimate plan, and Alastair was insane, creative, terrifying even, but no less insane.

She walked past the house, streetlights flickering slightly as she did. The Hunters, she supposed would be too busy with what they had to do inside, and she was too good for most Hunters.

Sam summoning her could have been fun. But it wasn't worth it. She'd see her boy again and she'd make him strong, stronger than he could even begin to imagine, even now. It had to be Sam, it always had. And if she had to pull him apart from Dean, slowly and oh so painfully then that was what she would do. She even felt sort of bad about it. But he'd be happier in the end. So much happier.
