Who: River Tam and Leela What: Leela waking up and finding a stranger within 10 feet of her that definitely wasn't there when she went to sleep! When: This morning! Where: Swimming pool/Library in Ten's TARDIS Warnings: Lots of WTFing and utter confusion. Probably not much more than that.
Hiding was definitely not Leela's style, but right now she couldn't help it. First Romana ends up getting killed, then she gets manipulated into hurting innocent people, then she gets shot herself. Now Romana showed up in the world again, only this time as the War Queen, and Leela didn't like it one bit. Before, Romana had told her of the War Queen, how bad things had got and how hard she had to be. But to experience it herself? This was so far removed from the Romana she knew. The War Queen was more like Pandora, so much so that Leela didn't want to be around her. After all, Pandora had killed Andred, and she wasn't so sure this Romana wouldn't hurt her or someone else she cared about. It was bad enough that Romana had demanded K-9, she didn't necessarily want to know what other demands Romana would make of her. She didn't know this Romana, nor did she think she wanted to, but she would look to the Doctor for guidance on this.
As a result of her turmoil, Leela was, in fact, "hiding" within Ten's TARDIS. She had not left the time machine since she'd burst into it when Ten had first arrived. She'd wandered through the seemingly endless corridors, getting used to the layout since the interior had changed drastically since she'd traveled in it. Like a scent hound, Leela had located one of the swimming pools fairly quickly, the one in the library. She'd spent a couple minutes wondering how the pool ended up in the library, but shrugged it off, chalking it up to the Time Lord technology that she tended to think was silly. She'd been swimming multiple laps in the pool lately, sometimes she even slept in the room instead of using one of the bedrooms. That had been the case the previous night. She'd taken a late night swim, then ended up sleeping in the library. While it didn't have a bed, Leela didn't quite care because she could sleep most anywhere. It was a perk of having grown up in a primitive, tribal culture. Another perk was that she had heightened senses from being a hunter. She had a natural ability to sense danger and sense people approaching, even when asleep. After all, in the world she came from, danger could strike at any time, and a warrior had to be ready for a fight at any time, even when asleep.
Leela woke up from a light sleep, shifting slightly. After taking a few moments to gain her senses, she sat up slowly, her attention first going to her right shoulder. The bullet wound was still tender, which wasn't helped any by Leela's insistence in swimming. She lightly touched the area around the disfigured flesh, testing it. Hissing softly, she pulled her hand away and sighed, wondering when it would be fully healed. As usual, she was dressed in her animal skins, leaving the wound clearly visible, when her hair wasn't in the way. She stretched her back, then finally sensed that something was off. Frowning, Leela turned her head to see a strange girl not that far from her. A girl that definitely had not been there when she'd gone to sleep the night before. Completely forgetting about her shoulder and its stage of healing, Leela jumped to her feet, ready in case the girl decided to attack her.
"Who are you? How did you get in here?" Perhaps the Doctor knew this girl and had let her in. But wouldn't he have told Leela if that was the case? Surely this girl hadn't snuck into the TARDIS and found her way to this room. Or had she? Leela couldn't be certain, and to the girl's advantage, Leela was unarmed. Leia still had one of her knives. The rest were in a different room in the TARDIS. Leela kept her eyes on the girl, looking for any sign of hostility. She really couldn't be too careful.
