The kid was waiting for a lesson in morality. He actually believed that Lucifer was here to right him from the path of wrong, to ensure that he walked out of this dream thinking better of himself, his past, and his future. Lucifer smiled gently, though on the inside the smile was just as crooked and twisted as the rest of him, and shook his head. "That's not why I'm here," he said, ignoring the army of corpses that surrounded them. They weren't important to him. The only thing that mattered in this dream, to Lucifer, was the shaken, angry soul that stood before him now. "I'm going to be honest with you, Cade. All of this, everything that you're feeling now, it's right. It has always been right. You know that your life has been nothing but a mess ; for all your running and hiding, you always end up here, don't you?"
Lucifer stepped over a corpse and moved in closer to where Cade was standing. "Why do you think that is? Most people would have moved on. Or, at least, they would have acknowledged that this place is simply a place of grieving, rather than feeling the confusion that you do." Lucifer paused, then shot Cade a seemingly concerned frown. "What happened to your people here was horrible. You and I both know it. Everything that you ever loved and cared for was wiped away in a single second and there was nothing that you could do to stop it. I'm afraid that's the way that life works, Cade. You grow attached to something, you learn to care for it, and then someone steps in and ruins everything. No matter how strong you think you are, no matter how good you think you might be, it will always end this way. Is it really worth fighting for if you're going to suffer in the end? If everyone is going to suffer? Wouldn't it just be easier if it were already over?"
Lucifer reached out and extended a hand Cade's way, every last one of his instincts screaming for him to do the exact opposite with the gesture. Kill him, they said, destroy the little, hairless monkey now. He doesn't deserve to live, let alone dream. Lucifer did no such thing. He needed Cade. He was another piece to the puzzle. He had to play nice. "My name is Lucifer and you and I have a great deal in common. I really do think that we should talk." Lucifer had to be upfront with Cade. He was emotional, but he was far from stupid. Lucifer knew that he had to present himself as he was, otherwise Cade would never listen to anything that he had to say. And Lucifer needed that. Cade had to listen, otherwise he'd never truly understand what Lucifer needed for him to do.
"Let's start with how you feel," he continued, eyes leveling with Cade's own, inhumane as they seemed now, "after all, you and I both know that you felt it that day all of this happened. The loss was there, but there was something else, too, wasn't there? Something darker than you'd ever felt before."
