After a long day, all Vi wanted to do was settle down in her chair and play a game on her Wii. Apparently the universe had felt this was too much to ask. First, the sensor bar had somehow come unplugged and she'd spent five minutes adjusting it on top of the TV, thinking that the sensor in the front of the remote couldn't reach it, then panicked thinking that something was wrong with it. Finally, she had followed the cord to the console and realized it was something utterly simple. That's the way it always went, wasn't it? It was something simple and therefore the last option anyone looked at?
Then, once she'd finally settled, Indiana Jones had been about to beat a Russian thug into tar when the remote quit working. The tables quickly turned and since Indy chose to just stand there, the thug quickly beat him down and the menu popped up on the screen, offering a retry. Vi wrinkled up her nose as she tried to hit RETRY and nothing happened. Smacking the remote against her palm, she hit the button again. "Great," she muttered and stood up, going into her tiny kitchen and banging around the drawers. She had AAA and C and D batteries but the package containing the AAs was empty. She tossed it in the garbage can and continued searching through the apartment, not finding one thing she felt comfortable borrowing the batteries from. "Well...crap."
Sliding her feet into her flip flops and pulling on the oversized green hoodie, she headed downstairs to the community kitchen. Kept stocked by the dilligent residents of the complex, she could always count on finding something there. She'd make a note on the fridge that she owed them a couple of batteries and pay them back by grabbing a full one the next time she went shopping. That seemed like a fair trade. She really didn't want to go out tonight. Sorry Indy, your exploits on the Wii aren't worth that much trouble. She stood near the counter, frowning slightly. "If I were batteries, which drawer would I be in?"
