Saffron couldn't have had much of her nasty poison in this place, so really what were the odds of a second poisoning. It was slim to none. Mal was typically not one to base his actions off slim. He was a man who didn't like complications, and slim meant here was leeway for some to happen upon him. He was the type of Captain who went out of his way to make sure they didn't have surprises. Throwing caution to the wind meant that Mal was decidedly smashed. He wasn't paying much attention to the people who came and went through the lobby that night, so even when Simon came into his line of vision, Mal didn't stray.
Only when he was spoken to did the Captain look up and his smirk widened. "For now. Ain't gonna be much longer. " The fact that he was standing alone at this point was pretty magnificent. Took some real skill. His words were slurred out and nearly impossible to understand but he continued on anyway. Mal tried to think of something to say to the doctor, but the liquor was making it extra difficult. Words were exceptionally hard to come by the longer they stood there. "Keep'n th cannibal alive? Irony that. " He managed, he'd seen the posts earlier on about a girl who'd been shot. He knew Simon would have to step up and take over that little detail, but he didn't like it much.
She reminded him too much of reavers. Ate people, fucked with people, probably minds alike knowing her sort. "Should have come out for a drink instead. " He stated as a matter of factly.
