Ruby wanted that too as it happened. More than anything. She imagined it. A world where they weren't looking over their shoulder, hated and reviled just cause of what they were, demons and hunters breathing down their necks. Lucifer wanting to use Sam to get what he wanted. All of it could just go and die as far as she was concerned. But she'd known as he did what it would mean to be together. She knew how many people would hate them. "It would be nice wouldn't it" she mused, "But thats what this house can be, just a little at least, a break away from all that. A place thats just us, and our married life and our friends can come and it'll just be ours" She kept digging as she spoke, at least until Sam moved across to her and put his hand on her shoulder.
In it together. That they were, she supposed and she didn't mind it one bit. She liked being in it together with him. What she didn't like was feeling like she was still making him something he wasn't. Sam Winchester didn't kill his fellow Hunters, hard for him to do or not. He didn't say that there'd be no hesitation. "I understand it Sam. I really do, I don't like it though. I hate the idea that you might have to kill these people who, lets face it, are doing exactly what you'd have done a few years back if you knew of a Hunter who'd done all this with a demon by his side. And sure, if we have to kill them then we have to kill them. But I can't help but feel like I'm the cause of all this for you" Ruby knew she was his family now, she knew that he'd do anything he had to to keep her safe. She knew all that and still it felt like she was dragging him down.
She knew what he was saying. Knew it made sense. And if those two died Ruby would make sure they died knowing just who it was they were hunting. And she'd make sure it was quick. All of a sudden though Sam's hand was in her hair and Ruby let herself lean against him for the comfort he always brought her. She closed her eyes and breathed in and out, trying to relax.
That was of course when Sam slumped against her. She'd forgotten why they were here.
"Oh no you don't." she told it, moving aside to let Sam get his bearings back and grabbing his shotgun. She clicked it ready to fire and aimed it at the chest of the thing before her. "That's my husband you son of a bitch" she told it, and fired. Moving quicker than she ever could normally to reload and fire again.
