WHO: Sam & Ruby WHAT: There's a ghost haunting the house they want to buy. Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS. A vampire and a fairy, of course! WHEN: Evening, for that is the only appropriate time to hunt ghosts with vampires. WHERE: Just outside of Lawrence. RATING: PG-13 to start.
There was so much going on right now, between power swapping, demon abductions, Dean going out of his mind Sith style, and Lucifer hopping into their brains that Sam felt like his head was gonna explode from the sheer fact that he had absolutely zero control over any of what was going on. He couldn't stop Lucifer from bothering anyone, he couldn't fix the power swap because he didn't have the ability to (though he did push a few witches at a few spells; the results were still inconclusive as far as he knew, but Sam supposed the knowledge that they were doing what they could was better than nothing), and Sam sure as hell couldn't figure out where Dean was, try as he might to find him. He hadn't stopped searching for his brother for days and, with little to go on by way of finding him and even less to go on by way of figuring out where the demon responsible for abducting Juliet was, Sam decided to keep his eyes on the boards, listen for any bit of news that he could find on just about anything at a constant rate, and go about taking care of something that he could control. A haunting. It was something that he and Ruby had been looking into for a while now - Sam had researched the history of the place and, as expected, there had been quite the tragedy on the haunted property - so with little else that Sam could do about all of the chaos that surrounded them now, Sam decided to take a few hours out of his never-ending search for Dean to take care of the ghost. Or potentially ghosts, if Sam's theories about what had happened were correct.
The downside, of course, was that Sam was going to be distracted throughout the entire hunt. He'd be checking his phone, he'd be worrying over Dean and Juliet and everyone else that happened to be completely thrown out of the loop in dangerous ways, and he'd be paranoid that something else was going to happen to them. Like Lucifer randomly showing up and making good on his word to make Sam his vessel. That was a big part of why Sam had decided to bring Ruby with him. She'd keep him on the level. And if that didn't work out, at least Sam would have an extra pair of eyes on his back in case something got the jump on him. It wasn't the best state of mind to be hunting in, the way that he was now, but Sam had to do something with himself. If cleaning up this house was the only thing he could make a difference toward right now, then so be it. At least he'd be making Ruby happy by giving her leverage toward them getting the house.
Leaning against the side of Ruby's car, Sam distractedly shoved a few rounds of rock salt into his shotgun. It was dark out, the property was quiet and clear; having a gun out in the open didn't seem to be much of an issue currently, especially given the amount of personal space the house seemed to have for itself. Ruby had been right about one thing - the place was decent. More than decent, in fact. It was more than a little above and beyond what Sam had expected. It also made him worry about the chances of them actually being able to obtain the home for themselves - again, the property was huge and the house was nicely structured, from what Sam could tell - but if this was what Ruby wanted, then Sam would try his best to get it for her. The haunting thing helped, at least. No one wanted to stay in a haunted house and if they took care of that ghost problem and made an offer to the seller, maybe they'd be able to strike a deal within a reasonable price range. Or maybe Sam would just have to give in to Ruby's suggestion and let her possess the person in charge of the selling. Maybe. Probably not. But maybe.
Snapping the barrel of the shotgun in his hands shut, Sam flipped it over - handle facing outwards - and offered it to Ruby. He had a spare that he needed to check first before they went inside, but Sam vaguely recalled loading his up before they'd left the apartment. "Are you sure this is the right place?"
