It reminded her of the way she’d arrived in Lawrence, for just a second - the way the entire world seemed different, from the scenery to the climate to the different stone under her feet - but then there was a familiar presence behind her, the goldwhite spark at the back of her mind appearing from out of nowhere, and she recognized this for what it was. Recognized what had happened, at least, if not the location, because aside from the first of these ‘vacations’ to that island after the kidnapping, she’d never actually been out of Kansas, so far; she wasn’t exactly familiar with this world. But if Gabriel was here, if this was his doing, then that meant they were at least still on the right planet, in the right reality, then.
...Well, probably.
Although when she’d gone and started thinking of this reality as the right one was beyond her. It shouldn’t be - back home, she had a whole future to change, her family to save from being torn apart, a whole life back there waiting for her that didn’t involve being possessed and manipulated over and over by things she didn’t even completely understand, things that were like myths turned real.
...but then again, there were some bright points here, too.
The smile Jaina offered when she turned around towards Gabriel was actually pretty genuine, though carefully edging towards amused and wry rather than the wobbly, emotional one that tried to surface instead. She wasn’t going to look at this as anything other than what it was - a chance to get away from the stress for at least a little while - and she was going to ignore the part of her mind that was busy trying to figure out why he was going out of his way to give her that right now, when she needed it, just like the last time. Over-thinking it would never help anything.
“My schedule’s completely free, actually,” she responded, tilting her head slightly, “You have strangely good timing.”
