Were you really in there long enough to be so desperate to touch a girl? Four days had been long enough, in his opinion, yes. Nathan was pretty damn sure that he'd heard whispers of people plotting to gang rape him in the showers later that week, so yeah. Being in that type of environment without a single feminine hand to cling to - unless one counted that homosexual a few cells over, who Nathan had absolutely zero plans on clinging to ever - was downright unsettling. Nathan preferred it out here tenfold, even if Epiphany wasn't the most sympathetic party in the world. Not that he was much better, of course. "Girl? You're a girl?" Looking baffled, Nathan released Epiphany's hand, stood back up, and took a few steps away from her. Hands going to his hips, he tipped his head to the side and examined her as dramatically as possible. Turning to the side as a scruffy looking man wandered by, Nathan leaned toward him and said, "Does she look like a girl to you?" A scowl was shot at him in response and the man kept walking, clearly uninterested in Nathan's behavior. Or uninterested in Nathan in general. Probably both.
"I think, in honor of me being a free man, you should treat me to dinner," Nathan decided, topic changing quickly, as Nathan's mind tended to switch from one thing to another without much warning whatsoever. "I'm thinkin' pancakes. Real food. Have you ever eaten in prison before? 'Cause if I couldn't die, I'd be dead right now. That's probably how they manage to house so many of us; kill the weak off with their toxic food and leave the rest to rot their way out. Barbaric twats!"
It was true that he probably should have thanked her for coming out, putting her money down, and helping Nathan out of jail here, but Nathan wasn't all that used to playing the whole appreciative card. At least not in person. He figured he'd say something later or do something inadvertently nice when the time came, but right now Nathan was entirely set on being his usual, obnoxious self. He needed to be, after being reduced to nothing more than a body behind bars for the past couple days now.
