WHO: Booth, Sam, & Bela!
WHAT: The moral of the story, kids, is that if you're going to kill a Winchester, you probably shouldn't let another Winchester find out. 'Cause then you die. Also a bit of sound advice: never manipulate an FBI agent into thinking that he's gotta sell his soul for you. 'Cause then you die a lot.
WHEN: Evening.
WHERE: The location Booth and Sam tracked Bela to.
RATING: HIGH. For there is death and that is not very nice.

Sam needed this. A loose end, one that required a hell of a lot of violence to tie together and clean up. Bela Talbot had always been a pretty big pain in the ass, but Sam never thought that he'd ever see the day where he'd find enough reason to go far out of his way to track her down and kill her. She certainly had the terrible personality and motivations, but most of them were bent in screwing people over and dealing with the wrong people. This time? Bela had dealt with the worst possible person in all of existence. She had decided to work for the Devil, Sam was guessing, hence the reasoning for killing Dean under Lucifer's command. Sam might well have let her get away with crap like jinxing him with a rabbits foot and stealing the Colt in the past, but she wasn't gonna live past this one. It was one thing to screw material objects out of Sam Winchester's hands. It was another to take a life away from him, especially when that life belonged to Dean.

Sam wasn't the only person out there who needed to wrap up personal business with the bitch, otherwise he would have taken Ruby's coordinates and followed them straight off without a second thought. Booth though - he needed this as much as Sam did, if not even more. Sam had immediately asked the FBI agent to come with him to finish her off. Even though Booth was an agent of the law, Sam found himself far from surprised when the man agreed to take part in the hunt. Bela just brought out that deep, dark, murderous side in people, Sam figured. Even in respectable men, like Booth.

Parked outside of the complex, Sam waited impatiently for the man to join him in the Impala. They had a bit of a drive ahead of them, one that Sam was determined to see through as quickly as possible. Fingers (of the hand that wasn't half broken, that was) drumming against the steering wheel, Sam leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes. After all the crap that they were going through with Dean right now, Sam needed to kill something. He needed it more than he cared to admit.

It almost scared Booth how willing he was to go through with killing another person. Killing a woman he thought he once could have feelings for until everything dipped into a landslide and fell apart around him. He was convinced he could get through to her once, but at this point if he hadn't been able to it was likely it wasn't going to happen. She wa just going to continue to be horrible to him, and everyone around her. She was going to be a heartless bitch and Booth didn't know how much longer he could sit back and watch her callously hurt people, be it emotionally or physically. So he agreed to Sam's plan, more then agreed. He looked forward to it, and it made him feel wrong inside.

He didn't waste much time at his place gathering a few choice weapons and a jacket before joining Sam in the Impala and sliding the old door shut carefully but firmly. He didn't need much. It wasn't like they were going on an all day excursion or anything. He just needed weapons, and for a fail safe brought along a bullet proof vest. He knew Bela was a good shot, so if she did have a gun on her-an what respectable gunman or woman didn't carry a gun at all times, then at least if he was shot he wouldn't be killed. Or such was the theory with bullet proof vests anyway. they weren't always infallible, but he had the upper hand should she manage to her hers on a weapon at least.

Seeley was quiet as he sank into the old seats of the Impala. Any other time he might have been impressed by the car, but he was focused on finding Bela, and ending things. Closing a chapter in his life he wasn't going to miss. It should have been a nice thing right, but there was that little voice in his head that was telling him it was murder. He was getting in that car to kill someone he hadn't been licensed by the FBI to kill. It made him feel a little ill, but it needed to be done. "Lets just do it quick, yeah?" He stated as he almost mechanically did a mental check of his current weapons on his person.

Quick. Right. Sam kind of wanted to make it slow and brutal. He wanted Bela to suffer, to beg for mercy before he ended her life. She deserved it. In fact, she deserved worse. Expression dark, Sam nodded in spite of his personal opinion on how Bela's death was to go down, eyes steering themselves back out to focus on the road ahead. "You know she's gonna try and talk her way out of it, right?" Sam kicked the Impala into drive and steered out into the street. Normally, he'd have sat back and talked to Booth straight on. No driving, no distractions. Right now though, all Sam wanted to do was get to Bela. They'd chat on the way. "It's what she does. Manipulates her way outta the messes she makes, no second thoughts about it. She'll try with us." Sam cast a careful look over toward Booth, feeling slightly unsure as to how the man beside him would handle the situation. "She'll try with you."

She had denied everything when Sam had confronted her about it on the comms. Sam was more than sure she'd pull the same stunt again once they found her. She'd talk, she'd beg, she'd deny everything. Then she'd wait for the perfect opportunity to either run or shoot - whichever was easier, probably. Sam pressed down on the gas harder, not even phased by the fact that he was speeding with a federal agent in his company. So what if he broke the law with Booth around? The man was about to assist him in murder. He really couldn't say anything.

"I know you've dealt with Bela a lot over these past couple months, but you're dealing with a cornered animal here, man. She'll do whatever it takes to get out of this and I don't want you to walk in and get caught off guard. I don't want you to be unsure." Sam wanted this dealt with. He didn't want any hesitation from Booth here, so he was looking for some kind of reassurance. Knowledge that Booth wasn't gonna flake on him when they went in to finish what Bela had started. The man might have had a strong gut out on the field, but this was personal. Everything changed when it got personal.

Any other time, Seeley might have felt like talking. But he was going to commit murder. It wasn't like it had been with the Army Rangers where it was government ordered, and it wasn't like with the FBI where it was work. It was murder. An internal debate ran through his mind until Sam had started the engine and they were off. "This isn't my first time around the block with caged animals. " He stated plainly as he looked over at the younger man beside him. "I kill for a living, Sam. I take my mark and she's going down. She can say anything she wants. " The look in his eyes was strictly professional. In the past it might have bothered him to take out a life, but these days if it needed to be done then that was all there was too it.

"I'm a sniper Sam. Army Ranger. I'm not going to blow this. Besides that..I'm sick of being burned, and watching her hurt everyone I give a damn about. I may have traded spots with her, but I'm still not convinced she has a soul. Some people deserve to die. " It was a harsh thing to say, but what else could be expected from someone who dealt with human monsters on a daily basis? "I tried everything I could to get through to her..I didn't ask for anything. "It was almost like the experience with Bela had simply drained Booth of emotion. The way he felt and spoke was almost mechanical.

"She deserves this. Made her own bed. " He leaned against the window of the Impala and watched out into the world. " I've got your back Winchester. " He stated simply after the fact and just rested his cheek against his arm. He almost missed dealing with regular people, and then Bela came along and he wasn't sure which was worse anymore.

"You might be a skilled shot out on the field where you're getting paid to hunt down crooks and psychopaths, but this is different. We both know it's different. You're breaking the law, man. Stepping outside of that safe, little government owned society of yours to take action into your own hands. It's not bad. In fact, you're doing the world a favor. But if your guys back at the office ever catch wind of you taking part in somethin' like this -" Sam whistled lowly, as if that were enough to explain everything. Sam didn't doubt Booth as a man who could take care of himself. He worked with the FBI, he'd survived the apocalypse this long, and he was still looking to bring out justice against selfish, arrogant, dangerous people like Bela. As far as things went between himself and Booth, no matter how uncertain Sam had felt about the man in the past, he did know one thing and one thing alone: the guy was all right and he was gonna do all right, so long as he knew what he was getting himself into ahead of time.

"I warned you to stay away from her," Sam said darkly, eyes fixed on the road. "You remember that, don't you? I told you stay as far away from her as you could, 'cause nothing good was ever going to come out of that woman." He had been right. Sam hadn't expected anything different from Bela. Once a crooked bitch, always a crooked bitch. Maybe she could have been changed, at one point - like Ruby had been - but it was obvious that she didn't want to be different. She was in it for herself, she didn't care about anyone else, and she was going to burn as many people as she could so long as she could lease out that warranty on her life for just a little bit longer. Some things never changed, Sam figured, no matter how bad some people may have wanted for them to. "I told you so's aside, you were only trying to do the right thing. I think you're a moron for not listening to me, Booth, but..." Sam shook his head and gripped at the steering wheel a little more firmly. "I respect you for trying. I want you to know that, before we do this. You did all you could. She's not gonna change and there is no going back. Just keep that in mind." Sam glanced over him and shot him a small smirk. "Listen to me this time."

Booth had his back. That was good enough for Sam. He pressed down on the gas, speeding up a little, and made for their destination without pushing the conversation any further.

"I've made my decision. " There wasn't even a hint of wavering in his voice when it came to shooting down Bela. He knew what he was doing. He had tried to justify it in his mind, but when it came down to the raw truth of things there was no other way to put it. He was taking an unauthorized life. The government hadn't ordered him to take Bela down, he was acting on his own. He had to keep mentally reminding himself that it wasn't just a typical job, but it would get done. It had to get done. People like Bela would only make things more complicated, and bring more pain to a world where enough of it already existed. "I know. I'm not saying it's going to be easy considering who the target is, but it needs to be done. And that's all there is. " He hoped she wouldn't turn on the emotional charm, but even if she did like Sam said, Booth knew what he had to do. "I don't like it, it feels wrong. But I know you're right on this one. " He wasn't a person who liked going against the books, but in the long run it would be better for them both if this was how things played out.

"I know. I just thought.." Why was he explaining himself? He didn't want to explain himself to anyone when it came to love or emotion. He was the one who was supposed to be good at emotional communication. That's why he and Bones worked together. He could understand human behavior. But in Sam's world everything worked differently, backwards sometimes and it was frustrating for men like Booth who believed that everyone had at least an ounce of good in them, and deserved a chance. "I thought I could reach her. I didn't want anything from her except you know, not to kill anyone. But the bitch couldn't even do that. " He gave Sam a strained smile. "So much for a good judge of character. " He was hard on himself, but he'd made a deal to trade places with Bela. "I'm such an idiot. "

Seeley didn't know how else to explain it but he'd hoped just by being with her, being a good and decent human being that maybe he would give her a second chance at life. He'd given her plenty of opportunity to change, but she hadn't even a little.

"Bela isn't gonna change," Sam said darkly with a shake of his head. "I know I might not seem like the most optimistic of people to you, but I used to be a lot like you were there with Bela with other people. Used to wanna bring out the good in people when there was nothing but bad, even if it seemed hopeless." Except, in most of those cases, the people that Sam had been dealing with weren't all that horrible. They were just screwed into horrible situations that were beyond their control. Like being a werewolf, for example. Still, that didn't mean that Sam wasn't allowed to want to see the good in people. He had. For a very long time. Maybe he was more of a cynic now than he had been back then, because he knew, deep down, that if Bela Talbot had come walking up to him begging for a second chance once she'd dragged Booth's soul outta the picture, he'd shoot her down. No questions asked. "So, yeah. You're an idiot. But you're a caring one, so that makes up for it as far as I'm concerned. I just wish that you didn't have to learn your lesson in such a hard and fatal kinda way."

Sam furrowed his brow and tried to focus on the road. "I wish I knew how to help you got your hands back on that soul she stole from you." Sam didn't know how to. He had wasted a year away trying to figure out how to save his own damn brother and he had come up short-handed, even after digging into some pretty screwed up and dark places. There was no way out of a deal unless it was through another deal, the way Sam saw it. Or...well. Sam cast a careful look at Booth, then shook his head.

No, he'd bring that up later. Right now, they had a bitch to take down. "Look," Sam said, nodding toward the road ahead. "There. She'll be up there."

This kind of subject was one that Seeley wasn't good at, so listening to someone who was much younger then him chide him for things didn't exactly thrill him. But he did listen. Sam was no Sweets, he didn't have any kind of training, so Booth in a normal situation would have found it next to impossible to respect what he said at all, but things were different. This was Sam's world and not his, he knew Bela, and he'd made a solid judgement on what Booth had been attempting when he did what he did. So he couldn't discount it too badly. "Believe me, so do I. " He finally stated after a while of simply simply thinking of the task at hand.

He worried though, not so much about taking out Bela, but about the future and it showed on his face despite how much he tried to hide it. "I'm not looking to be saved. "It sounded terrible, he knew. But Sam had plenty of things on his plate, what he'd done with his soul was his own bed. "You can't save everyone, little ironic coming from me now. " He stated bitterly.

He was happy for a change of subject when Sam directed his attention toward where Bela would be waiting for them. "Lets do it then. " Sam couldn't mention this to everyone, in a way whether or not he was expecting to be saved he was putting a lot of responsibility on the younger man's shoulder. If the FBI caught wind, he would lose everything and he knew it.
