To say that John Winchester was exhausted after everything would have been the understatement of the year. If he could have actually let those words pass through his lips, he would have won the award for best acting. What John was, where his head was, not even he was certain as he drove down miles of open road in his truck after making sure Bobby had two eyes on everything. He'd been taking more and more frequent breaks. He just felt like he needed too. It was draining being around Bobby's. Honestly he was surprised he hadn't been shot at yet by his older friend. His family was a mess. He was trying everything in his arsenal to fix it, but he just didn't know how. Sam was a wreck, Dean was flippant at best, he was upset-though rather then show it, he took one of those 'breaks' he'd likely been becoming famous for over the last few days. He always made sure the person who covered for him was Bobby. Mary didn't need the stress, and Ruby..he wasn't entirely sure what she was doing in there with Dean, but it sounded even less fun then he was having when he went in.
Plain and simple, John needed a break. So he took a drive back down to Lawrence and to the Roadhouse to see Jo. He was coming in late, the roads were pretty much empty which was a good thing for a truck the size of his but he was unfocused. He had so many things on his mind that he just barely made it to her bar on autopilot. He was grateful when he saw the familiar road that lead to the bar coming up in view. Just driving alone was exhausting, he probably should have taken Mary with him but he wanted to let her sleep. She needed it, and he probably did as well but with Dean in the panic room there wasn't much chance of that happening too easily.
He climbed out of his truck as soon as he turned off the engine and the sound died down. Looked like he'd missed last call. He pulled out his phone and texted Jo. I'm out front. to the point and nothing else. He wasn't really into the technology era as much as Sam, or some of the other younger new arrivals were. It just wasn't something he was used to.
