Jo didn't feel the other presence, didn't even hear it, and thought she was alone until the voice spoke up. She tensed a little, glancing over her shoulder, then relaxed at seeing Ruby. The blond studied her for a moment before answering. If someone had told her before she'd come to Lawrence that her best friend would end up being a demon, she probably would have laughed or punched them. Or both. But now, she had come to understand Ruby in a way she still didn't fully comprehend, and actually had begun to love her, almost like a sister.
Her eyes fell, and she shrugged a little. "I don't. But it helps, a little, anyway, to talk to him, I guess. To take the chance that maybe, just maybe, he's paying attention." After a moment, she scooted further into the pew, leaving room on the wooden bench next to her for Ruby. "You're not bothering me. You can stay." In a way, she was glad that it was Ruby who had overheard her, and not someone else. She'd told Chuck she wouldn't go out without him since Meg was back in town, but she'd done so anyway...and she had been taking a huge risk, going out alone. At least now, though, she had a friend with her. Even if it was one who was probably still a little mad at her.
"How are you?" Her gaze met Ruby's again, knowing that she wouldn't get a bullshit answer, and glad for that. Jo needed something to distract her away from Chuck and his visions, right now.
