"James, I bet you can't catch me!" Phillipa jumped to her feet and raced off towards the house, slowing down after she'd gone about half way because she was going to let him win. Her daddy had told her that sometimes she had to let James win since he was so little, and couldn't run as fast as her. As she slowed down, the little girl looked over her shoulder to check and see how close he was, when suddenly she wasn't running through the wildflowers in their backyard anymore. Things had changed, and she was now running on a sidewalk next to what looked like a park. She jerked to her feet and spun around, eyes widening.

"James? Daddy?" This was confusing, and scary. Her eyes started to well up with tears as she realized that her home was gone and her daddy wasn't standing in the doorway and all she could see were trees. In alarm, her voice rose as she called out for him again. "Daddy? DADDY!" She was trying very hard to be brave and not cry, but it was really hard and it was cold out, she had just realized. Wrapping her tiny arms around herself in a tight hug, she started to walk down the sidewalk to try and find a policeman-person, because Aunt Ari said that girls could be police too-because the police were supposed to be able to help her whenever she got lost. Except Phil didn't know how she had gotten lost. She called for her daddy again as she walked, finally stopping next to a bench. She was really just too cold to keep walking, because all she was wearing was a sundress. That was weird too, since it had been summer just a minute ago.

Climbing up onto the wooden bench, Phillipa curled up and stared wide eyed around her for a moment. This time when she called out for her daddy, it was quiet, almost a whisper. When no answer came, she burst into tears and buried her face in her arms.

The air held enough of a chill to warrant a hot cup of coffee but not enough to deter Leo from taking a detour through the park on his way back to the complex. Now that the holiday rush was over, things had seemed to settle down, bringing with it a quiet that didn't quite settle right. Maybe they were in for some downtime but since his arrival, it didn't seem to last long. At least the holidays had brought some happiness in Piper's arrival, even if they were a few years apart, and Wyatt's, although he was still adjusting to having a son.

As Leo raised the cup to take a drink, a child's voice caught his attention. He hesitated for a moment before starting down the sidewalk the way he'd come, following the path to a nearby bench and the little girl huddled on it. Concern took over when he realized there was no one else around and she was dressed more appropriately for playing outside in the summer than to keep warm in the winter weather.

Heading over, he set the cup down on the sidewalk and then crouched at the end of the bench, giving her room so she wouldn't feel threatened. "Hey," he said softly, trying to catch her concern. "What's wrong, kiddo?"

Still sniffling, Phillipa looked up when she heard the voice. She frowned a little as she studied him for a moment. "Are you a policeman? I was playing with my brother and we were running and I was about to slow down for him but then I was here and everything is different and I don't know where my daddy is and I'm supposed to look for a policeman but I got cold so I sat down." The words came in a rush as they often did when her mouth and mind just ran away together - Phils wasn't very good at being quiet, usually, and when she was scared, it was worse - mainly because she wanted to know what was going on.

The six year old was shivering and hugged herself a little tighter as she studied the man. She hoped he was nice, because he had nice eyes, but she didn't know for sure if he was someone she really should be talking to.

"Do you know where he is, mister?"

The poor kid. Hearing her explanation, he had a bad feeling that finding her family wasn't going to be as easy as searching the park for someone she recognized. He hoped he was wrong but from the way people talked about the seal, it didn't have limitations when it came to who it pulled to this world. "No, I'm not a policeman," he replied gently, shaking his head. "My name is Leo. I live close to here."

He glanced over his shoulder down the sidewalk, listening for a moment in case someone was calling for the child. Nothing. Rising to his feet, he pulled his coat off and put it over her shoulders, letting her do the adjustments as he crouched down again so he was at her level.

"What does he look like? Maybe we can walk back the way you came and we'll see if we can find him?" he suggested.

A small sigh of sadness was heard when he said he wasn't a policeman, because it meant that she wasn't really supposed to talk to him. But he was being nice, and when he put the coat over her shoulders, she snuggled into it immediately. It was warm from him and smelled good, making her think of her daddy a little, so she smiled at him in thanks. "I'm Phillipa!"

"I came from that way." She pointed down the sidewalk in the opposite direction he had been walking from, then slowly uncurled and got off the bench. Pushing her arms through the coat sleeves, they dragged the ground, as did the coat itself, as one hello kitty sandal-clad foot kicked at a small pebble. "He's tall and has brown hair but darker than me and he has a mustache and blue eyes." Phils could have been describing just about any guy in the world. She looked up at Leo, a little confused. "But I don't think he's there because he's supposed to be at home and so am I."

"That's a pretty name. It's nice to meet you, Phillipa," he replied, giving her a small smile. He didn't miss the small sigh that followed him admitting he wasn't a police officer, but at least she still seemed willing to trust him. Thankfully he'd been the first to find her instead of someone that would have taken advantage of that trust.

As she climbed off the bench, Leo rose to his feet as well. He helped her slide her arms into the sleeves of the coat and rolled up the sleeves as she spoke so they wouldn't continue to drag. The coat's hem he couldn't do anything with but that was the last thing he was concerned with. The description she gave was a little vague but it was a start. "Tall, brown hair, mustache, and blue eyes," he repeated. "I'll keep an eye out for him."

The more she said, the more it seemed like this wasn't a simple case of lost and found, but of the seal taking at random. A child, of all people. "Why don't we walk back that way and check to make sure?" he said, holding his hand out to her. "If we don't find him, there's a place near here with some nice people that might be able to help."

"It's very nice to meet you too, Mr. Leo." She looked down at the sleeves of the coat after he fixed them for her, then smiled up at him. Phillipa wanted to tell him how scared she was - and hungry, because it was time for her lunch but she wasn't at home - but she didn't, yet.

When he offered his hand, she put hers in it without question, and started to walk back the way she had come. "My brother and me were playing but he couldn't keep up so I slowed down and then I was here. I don't know what I did to get lost." Tears started to fill her eyes again as they walked, because she was sure that something bad had happened somewhere that put her here.

He had no idea how he, or anyone else, was going to be able to explain to her what had happened to bring her here. It was bad enough that she had been abruptly pulled away from her brother and father but telling her that she wouldn't be able to go back to them because some a broken seal had brought her here with no way back was going to be harder. An apocalypse was the last thing a child her age should have to worry about, although if the seal could be explained without going into the apocalypse, that was the way to do it.

But he had to find something to tell her. Maybe not an explanation but some kind of reassurance. Unfortunately, he couldn't promise her that they would find a way to get her back. Leo stopped and crouched down beside her. "You didn't do anything to get lost, Phillipa. Sometimes things like this happen just because. You're going to be all right. I promise."
