Who: Tess and Open
When: December 15, 2010
Where: the complex community kitchen
What: making hot cocoa for everyone

Before the years she had spent among humans, Tess’ experiences with Christmas were bad ones. Nasedo had been a less than warm presence in her life, mainly just staying by her side to make sure that she made good on the deal that would take innocent lives. Once, when she was just a child, she tried to give him a present, but he refused to even unwrap the box. She spent the holiday roaming by herself, peering into shop windows and enjoying the ambience outside of her house instead of focusing on her mentor’s Grinch-like attitude.

When Tess moved in with the men of the Valenti household she was finally able to really experience the spirit of the season. They were a little reluctant to deck the halls at first, wanting only to watch football and eat Hungry Man microwave dinners, but Tess’ efforts paid off. Soon, the house was decorated with lights and there was even a tree in place. It was the first time since her life on Antar that she ever really felt like she had a place in a family.

Now, even though it was the end of the world, Tess felt that she could embrace Christmas once again. She didn’t have a whole lot of cash, but she had set out to get the people who had welcomed her to Lawrence a sort of Christmas present. Cookies had been made and she figured she would provide something to go with them. She’d gone out to a wholesale store and bought a vast collection of different flavored hot cocoa mixes at a cheap price along with two jugs of 2% milk to make hot chocolate with.

The box that held the packets of hot cocoa mix was too big to stuff in a cabinet, so Tess left it on the kitchen counter. She pulled out a packet of minty hot chocolate mix and emptied the contents into a mug, then pouring an appropriate amount of milk in after. All she had to do after that was hold her hand over the mug, heating the contents within using her powers. Tentatively, she took a sip from the mug and licked her lips, satisfied with the warm drink. This Christmas wouldn’t be so bad.

Felicia had just moved back into the apartments, no questions, no hysterics. Just signed herself up for a room again knowing the drill. She'd stay there till she'd accumulated enough fabulous wealth to be able to move out. Which meant she'd have to find a heist to take on. But that would come later. First she was following the smell of chocolate she'd picked up as she walked through the lobby. Heightened senses were a wonderful wonderful thing when chocolate was concerned. And this chocolate was minty. That just added layers of amazing to an already pretty much amazing find. She decided to detour to the kitchen to see if there was chocolate she could take back to her room as she unpacked some of the clothes she'd ...appropriated.

She wondered was the stuff from before still here, had it vanished when she had. That would be annoying.

Pushing open the door to the kitchen Felicia found herself prooved right. There was hot chocolate, various flavors laid out on the kitchen counter, Felicia gave the other blonde a smile and moved over to the packets sorting through and finally finding the cinnamon she'd been craving since she'd thought about chocolate at all. "If these are communal I may have to buy you something pretty" she said delightedly. It was the most wonderful time of the year precicely for reasons like this.

This place had its glaring downsides sure, end of the world and all but in Felicia's opinion as long as people kept sharing chocolate then they'd work out okay.

Dunking a sugar cookie into her hot chocolate, Tess couldn’t help but smile. It was a real smile, too, brought on by something incredibly simplistic. It reminded her a little bit of home. She nibbled at the edge of the cookie and leaned against the kitchen counter. She was grateful for moments like this.

“Yeah, they’re for everyone. I figured a good way to pay others back for their kindness was to appeal to their sweet tooth.” She smiled, reaching over to grab a mug for the other woman. “I can heat it up if you’d like. I’m speedier than a microwave.” Even her smaller talents were useful, it seemed.

“I’m Tess, by the way. I don’t think I’ve really met you.”

Felicia nearly leapt across the room but the woman said she'd make it for her so instead moving to one of the seats seemed like a less stupidly embarrassing looking move. This was such a nice little thing to do, simple but it showed just how nice some of the people here could be. So they couldn't go home but at the whim of heaven and hell but so what. Times like this Felicia was happy to be back.

"Appealing to peoples sweet tooth will never not work" she told her with a grin. "And I'm Felicia by the way, returnee" she added. Being here before confused the issue for some people who expected her not to know some of the things she did but she'd gotten a room and an amulet first thing. It was sensible after all and there was no sense in being stupid in a place like Lawrence.

"I haven't been back long" she told her, leaning in to see what the woman was doing by way of heating up her chocolate that was speedier than a microwave. It sounded interesting whatever it was.

"Have you been here long?" she asked.
