Ruby gave up the joint when the second was rolled and even with the beginnings of the haze that accompanied the drug didn't for a second miss how Cas reacted to mention of Dean. She wasn't sure if it was dislike or disappointment in how his charge had turned out. Maybe it was both. She knew Dean had turned back to how he'd been before. How hell had made him. Torturing with her aid, Cas knew too but maybe he expected it of Ruby more than Dean. He hadn't failed the demon after all.
"He's as well as he ever is lately. You know as well as I do how this has hit him." Of course it hit her too but much as Sam was her husband Dean had lost the brother he had pretty much raised. And Ruby knew it was worse even than death. Sam was still there somewhere. Lost inside Lucifer's mind. And he'd gone there willingly.
She hadn't been good enough to keep him by her side. She hadn't loved him enough.
"Tell me something good. Even if its a lie. The world can stay out there can't it, outside of here. That's how you like it right?" she asked, tilting her head to look around the room. It was one place where she could forget the horrors that she'd once wanted to bring upon the world. Before Sam had made that choice.
