It was just his luck to get bought at that toy store. Once Jessica, as he learned the little girl's name was, had set her eyes on him, she had thrown a fit of epic proportions until her mother had bought Angel, as if he was a real toy. The shop's owner had no idea where he had come from, but he had no qualms about selling Angel, after hashing out a price with Jessica's mother.
And during the whole transaction, Angel forced himself to not move and to simply let himself be tugged, thrown, and squeezed by the little girl who insisted on calling him Edward. Being from 2004, he had no idea what Twilight was and would have been horrified if he had realized he was being compared to some douchebag loser who sparkled in the sun and crept into teenage girls' rooms at night. He had no choice but to let himself be bagged and stuffed into a car next to groceries and Christmas decorations. He definitely had no choice when Jessica took him into her room. If he so much as looked at her funny, the charade was over. So he kept a carefully blank look on his face while she played with him and dressed him up in a dress.
When he thought he was ready to commit puppetcide, Jessica's mother thankfully called the little girl down for dinner.
"Now you stay right there, Edward. I'll be back soon and then we'll play with my makeup!" Jessica giggled to Angel, before she skipped out of her room.
Angel waited until he could hear her downstairs, before he moved to tear off the dress he had been stuffed in. He looked around to see what he could do to get out of there before Jessica came back, when he spotted the window. Sighing in relief, he got up on the toy chest under the window to peer outside. It was snowing, but it looked clear enough to him. He propped open the window and then turned around to see what he could use to climb down. Yes, he could have jumped out, but there were some thorny looking bushes below that he didn't have any desire to be stuck in and he wanted to avoid making noise as much as possible.
After a second, he hopped off the toy chest and ran over to Jessica's bed, which he stripped of its sheets. He started to tie them together and when he was ready, he tied one end to a bed post before throwing the rest of his makeshift rope out of the window. He was starting to climb up onto the toy chest once more, when he heard a growl.
Slowly, he turned around only to see the biggest doberman known to man standing in the open doorway, snarling at him. Angel raised his hands slowly. "Easy there, doggie. We're all good here, yeah?" He looked nervously at the beast, as he slowly moved one hand over his shoulder, ready to vault out the window if he needed to. The dog barked once and stepped closer in response. Angel hesitated and that was the move that cost him. The dog attacked, jumping at him with his mouth wide open and Angel let out a shriek that he would never admit to emitting. He just barely dodged the doberman, as he hoisted himself up onto the toy chest. He didn't hesitate this time as he threw himself out the window without bothering with the rope ladder, falling toward the ground with a rough landing.
"I hate my life," he muttered, spitting out a mixture of snow and dirt as he picked himself up. His coat was slightly torn and he was a wet mess, but he was still in one piece. Glancing back at the house behind him to make sure no one was going to come out and investigate the noise, he took off, heading back toward the city streets in hopes of sniffing out a demon that could help him.
He had no idea that he would find more than that. Much more.
