>"You can't feel them because they don't want to be found."
She hadn’t thought of that. Jacen hid from her all the time, locked his presence down so tight she felt nothing, an empty space on the inside and nothingness on the outside, and she wondered if angels did that, if they hid the way Jacen hid. She wondered, briefly, if that meant Jacen was an angel, but she decided that hiding or not, at some point she would have noticed it when he changed species completely, so that probably wasn’t the case.
>"They're here... And if they don't come back down here and put things right soon, I'm gonna be one really pissed off archangel."
“Pissed off human,” she said, almost too quiet for traditional conversation, but in the stillness here (no noises, that was one of the maddening things, there was no sound of cars or planes or people, just the wind) she was pretty sure he’d be able to hear anyway, “Whatever you were, you aren’t now. Some of the things you weren’t, you are.” She fidgeted for a moment, wondering if it was worth adding anything about it being fixed.
The world was dying, the people on it were dying, the angels were gone, Lucifer and his demonsick were wandering around...
It wasn’t exactly like there was a whole lot of hope, even if they were actively fighting back instead of just holing up places and waiting for the storm to blow over when the storm wasn’t going to go away. Still, she offered a smile - a disarming smile, or as close to one as she could manage since it probably looked a little unhinged because everyone said (or used to say, but no one says anything anymore ‘cause it’s just her and Jacen and he doesn’t say things like unhinged or crazy) she always did, “Maybe it’ll come back someday. Meantime, new you. Make the most of it.”
>"Please tell me you seriously haven't been living off of this crap."
Jaina rolled her eyes slightly. Seriously, was he actually that picky? “It’s better than baked beans,” she responded with a shrug, stuffing everything back into her bag, “And cannibalism isn’t really a very good option, ‘nless you wanna catch demonsick.” She wasn’t sure if an angel, powers or not, was able to catch the demonsick. It hadn’t happened yet, to her knowledge, but that didn’t mean it was impossible. She kind of wanted to find out, but that would mean having to kill him if he turned, so she decided not to suggest it.
>"If I had my powers right about now, I'd take all these protein bars and burn them... You know what? I think I might just go out of my way to find a lighter and some gasoline and go at it the old-fashioned way anyway!"
“Good luck with that,” she responded with a little scoffing laugh, pushing herself out of her squatted-down position and pulling her bag over her shoulder. “Gas is rare now. All been dragged off to the camps.” Besides that, she wasn’t exactly going to let him just burn all the food she’d brought with her, because vaguely unpleasant or not it was still food, and surviving was still important, for some reason. She wasn’t sure why. It was probably just instinct, or something, because she was pretty sure the world was dying, and so it wouldn’t matter if they died, too, or not, but... she didn’t really want to die.
