She looked away from the light, and still she could feel it, so wrong, so against everything she was even if he was the creator. He was at the core of himself an Angel and it hurt even if she wasn't looking at him. But Ruby knew how this went. Lucifer gave his usual, I can kill you with a thought warning and was gone in that blinding burning angelic light. And left behind was the broken shell of a man that had once been Sam Winchester.
He was just lying there on the ground. Not moving bar shudders, the only reason she knew he was alive. He didn't move at all and so Ruby dropped to her knees, still all dressed up for him and reached out her hand to stroke at his hair. It was neat, Lucifer kept it that way she supposed. She missed the messiness of it sometimes. "Baby its me" she whispered, sliding down to the floor alongside him. "We can lie here, just lie here if you want. I don't mind." God, his skin was cold to the touch, he was still so cold. She should warm him up somehow. Do something that a wife would do. Blankets and...soup maybe. Maybe soup.
"Please just say something, we have a whole day and night Sam, he's given us that. Twenty four hours that are just ours to spend here. And its not so bad this house. Electricty, heating, There's food. I dressed how you used to like remember. Do you remember?"
She was desperatly clinging to a fantasy of a marraige long since torn from them by Lucifer. But she'd made a vow years back that included the lines 'For better and for worse' and that was what this was. The others didn't see that, they thought he should die, that he wanted to die and if he did the world would be saved. And sure, she should snap his neck. She could do it too before Lucifer could return, of course he'd kill her then, but maybe she and Sam would have an afterlife.
Or not, he'd go to heaven for his goodness and she...well Lucifer would make an example out of her and she'd never have an afterlife with Sam. This was all she could hope for, snatched moments. It would have to do. "I love you" she whispered still stroking his hair. If this was all they did all day and night that would be just fine with her.
It was Sam. Her Sam. For moments like this, she'd betray everything else.
