"They might sulk in the beginning. The thing is, hard as they might pretend to be, most of them still have a guilt complex to play on. They've got their camps, rations, place to sleep but I'm not one of them. Guy's gotta eat," he said, smirking as he settled back into the seat lazily. "It's all about survival. Throw that line at them and the buy it almost every time."
Playing for that camps wasn't all that different from playing it up from the jury. It was a matter of finding their soft spots and leaning on them. These people had to survive, so did he. Make and build that connection, he was on his way to getting what he needed from them. "No, I learned that from growing up with the idiot the law defined as my father. I was already good at handling them by the time law school came around."
He couldn't argue that one. "Nothing personal. It's just business." It was never personal between them and he was just fine with that. Anything more got complicated and while he could handle complicated, it didn't need to be. He had enough of his own issues to deal with. "Well, I did take the risk so yeah, it would have been my fault." He shrugged. "But I didn't so take it as a win."
Lindsey glanced over at her, her reaction telling him enough. Satisfied, he settled back with a grin.
