Caroline was lying on the bed in their room, she hadn’t changed positions since returning home. She had told her rockstar she wanted to be left around, and not to allow anyone into the room. She wanted to be alone – she didn’t want to think about anyone, or anything.
…except Mystic Falls. The place seemed like a distant dream now. Even thought it had only been five years ago, it felt like a dream. Being human, felt like a dream as well. Caroline didn’t remember what it was like to have a heartbeat. Oh, she knew what other’s felt like, and generally thinking about that made her hungry. If it had been any other time, Caroline would be toying with one of the humans staying at the penthouse, and then she’d drink – she’d have a long, glorious drink.
Caroline felt her heart sink when she heard Damon’s voice. Any moment he’d be in here, he’d know something was wrong. There was no way her little rockstar would be able to keep Damon out. How could she tell him what she had done? How could she even begin to make him understand? How could she make anyone understand, she didn’t really understand. She had cared so little about everyone and everything for the past few years, and now she had given up her soul? Not even the camp leaders and the so called heroes were doing that sort of thing. Which either made Caroline stupid, or them stupid…she didn’t know, and didn’t want to either. A deal was a deal. There was no backing out now. She shut her eyes tight and buried them into the pillow.
At least for a while, they’d be safe. That was worth it wasn’t it?
