Who: Tess and anyone at the Buffy/Booth camp
Where: The Buffy/Booth camp, in a secluded area where she can practice her powers
When: Evening
What: Tess is practicing her powers on some poor, innocent sponge she found.

As evil and controlling as he had been, Tess wished that her guardian Nasedo was still around. When she was just growing up he had a very strict training regimen planned for her so that she would always be able to have the upper hand in any situation. It had helped her over the yeas that she had remembered a great deal about her life on Antar. She remembered what she was capable of and how to summon the proper energy to use her powers in certain ways. Nasedo wasn’t here for her, though. She had to do things on her own.

Whenever she wasn’t otherwise occupied, Tess focused on practicing her powers. She wanted to hone them to a point where she could take out zombies using only her mind. Bullets were precious resources and she didn’t want to waste them when she could get by without even firing a gun.

Yards away from her was a wet sponge. She’d been trying to work with damp objects because they were more difficult to set aflame. Tess’ process had remained the same over the years. She would close her eyes, gathering up all of the energy she had, and with an audible cry she would unleash all of that power on her target. She took a moment to breathe and then opened her eyes. The sponge was reduced in form to a tiny, charred little thing resembling a small black rock. She gave a small, satisfied smile.

Kitty's mind was just buzzing from everything that was going on at the moment. It was hard for her to drown out all of the emotions that were hitting her at once. Mike was alive, but he was dead. Elliot was alive, but he was dead. The dead were rising, but the biggest piece of that was the fact that none of them remembered anything. Mike didn't remember her, which was a punch to the gut, especially if it was really him. Kitty really didn't want to focus on that, though. She didn't want to think right now. Movement helped. Kitty couldn't stop moving.

She'd paced around the entirety of the camp once already. It wasn't really helping anything, but the small girl was half afraid that if she stopped moving her thoughts would really begin to consume her. The apocalypse had been difficult on everyone, no person had been left unscathed by all that had happened. Kitty just needed to remember that. She wasn't the only one upset, she wasn't the only one suffering in this situation. Her suffering probably didn't even compare to others and what they were feeling.

Her footsteps somehow lead her to the more secluded area of the camp. She wasn't alone, though. Someone was already here, someone that was...setting sponges on fire? Kitty blinked owlishly before a light smile pulled at her features. "Poor sponge. What did it do to you?" Kitty hadn't approached the other woman yet, but wasn't necessarily trying to startle her either.

Tess smiled at Kitty. It took a lot to catch her off guard, even if you were as stealthy as the petite mutant was. Tess liked Kitty. The girl was sharp, got things done and, of course, they shared a common trait. They were both a little more than human, each having their own signature attributes. Though circumstances forced Tess to at least be civil with all who stayed within the camp, she didn’t mind being nice to Kitty.

“I figured that sponges would be better to work on than people.” She gave a little shrug. Though she had killed before, Tess had developed a new sort of appreciation for the human species. They were certainly very good at surviving, considering the circumstances. “I’m getting better with the fire.” Tess put her hands squarely on her hips and gave the sponge one final glance before turning to face Kitty.

“How are you doing?” She gave her a friendly sort of look.

Kitty couldn't help but give the other woman a light nod, a smile still on her face. They had some similarities, actually. Neither of them were quite normal like everyone else was. Technically, Kitty was human unlike Tess, though. Kitty had all of the genetic make up of a human, along with a bit extra thrown out there.

Snickering a little Kitty agreed with the other girl, "Oh, definitely. I doubt anyone cares if you set sponges on fire." Kitty commented as she walked closer to Tess, moving to stuff her hands into her pockets. This was as good a distraction as any right now. "That's great. You been practicing a lot?"

Kitty shrugged lightly at the question. "I'm okay...how about you?"

“I have been practicing a lot, actually.” She had been pretty good about it, too. During her first years out of the pod she had sometimes been like a child who didn’t want to go to school in the morning. Though these days she would never admit it, she had whined and nagged to skip practice just for one day. At first her powers had given her headaches, but Nasedo, her guardian, really pressed Tess and emphasized the importance of her knowing how to utilize her gifts. “I’ve been pretty good about setting some time aside most days to do this.”

After speaking, and hearing Kitty’s casual inquiry, Tess averted her eyes looking suddenly solemn.

“I’ve been missing normal life. More than usual.” She gave a sigh. “You know somewhere, in the world I’m from, I have a son. He’s five, now. I wish I knew that he was alright.”

Kitty smiled at the other woman's words, nodding. "Practice makes perfect. I had to put a lot of practice into what I do too." Kitty admitted, it was the honest to god truth too. She had been that girl who every time she heard a loud noise she phased, every time she sneezed she phased, and it always happened in inconvenient times until she learned how to control it. Kitty nodded a little. "That's good. I don't practice so much anymore. But I did for a long time." Boy that was the truth.

Kitty looked at Tess, seeing the way she averted her eyes.

"I can't blame you for that at all. I miss home a lot. My friends and everything." Kitty blinked at the information that Tess shared so quickly, feeling bad for the other woman. "Wow....I wish you knew he was alright too. That's got to be hard."
