He smiled at her fondly as he tucked a lock of blonde behind her ear. Damon recalled once telling Caroline that he’d never seen her smile just because she was happy. She had smiled a lot, of course, but it always seemed like she was smiling for someone other than herself. These days he always saw her smile. It was the apocalypse, of course, but their life was relatively good.
“Seems like some of them got stubborn and came back from the dead.” Damon shrugged a little bit. Leave it to him to shrug off a very important detail that could very well affect the whole world, but he honestly wasn’t all that curious. “I didn’t look into it, really.”
