Sam grinned, dimples forming in each cheek as he looked down at the bottle. "I can't get anything past you, can I?" Damn. Sam hadn't even been able to try and pretend that he'd picked out the wine himself. Ruby simply knew him too well. He was more of a beer and whiskey kinda guy, whereas Ruby seemed to appreciate wine far more than he did. Tonight was special though - if there was any reason to go all out, especially for Ruby, it was certainly their engagement. Taking her hand, Sam let Ruby lead the way into the living room. He flopped down onto the couch not long after grabbing the wine opener, making use of himself by pulling the coffee table in closer so that they wouldn't have to move around too much to set their drinks down. By the time Ruby returned with their glasses, Sam was already halfway through with opening the bottle.
"You know, we're breaking all the rules here," Sam informed her, taking the glass that Ruby handed over once the cork popped out. "Demon and hunter falling in love? All right, fine. That's one thing. A rule breaker, no doubt, but -" Sam shot Ruby a warm look. "We're getting married." He liked the way that sounded, coming out of his mouth. It felt good; like it was completely right, in spite of how wrong it all would undoubtedly be viewed in the eyes of others. At this point, Sam didn't care about what anyone else thought. He went from hiding it and being ashamed to reluctantly putting it out there, then to putting their relationship all the way out there and being ashamed to eventually accepting that people weren't going to automatically accept them and now he was here. Sam didn't care. What mattered was that they were together and happy. They'd deal with all the crap that came from everyone else side by side, knowing that at the end of the day it only came down to them, everyone else be damned. It had taken Sam a long time to come to that conclusion, but he had finally gotten there. He was ready for this. Sam was ready to become hers, for the rest of his life, just as Ruby was ready to be his.
Sam poured Ruby a glass. With his entire mind still flowing with thoughts of marriage and heart still racing wildly from the excitement of Ruby's acceptance, Sam found he was having a hard time focusing. Wine. Why was wine important? Celebratory wine had nothing on the way that Sam wanted to show Ruby how he truly felt about her allowing him to put that ring on her finger. Rather than handing the wine right over to Ruby, Sam set the glass on the table along with the bottle and slid closer to her on the couch. He put an arm around Ruby's waist, both leaning in and pulling her toward him so that he could kiss her.
