Ruby stepped into the room and Sam sat down on the bed beside her. What she was wearing didn't bother him. On the contrary, Sam kind of liked it when she went casual. It was a simple, natural look; plus, she looked great in his shirt. He reached out and straightened out the collar in quiet amusement, knowing full well that the gesture would put off things for just a few seconds longer. Sam, personally, would take all he could get. "No, we're not going anywhere," Sam told her, fingers smoothing across her shoulders. He kept a hand there for a second, then dropped it into his lap to grab at the other nervously. He looked up in surprise when Ruby ruffled his hair up a little, a small smile immediately pinching it's way across his lips as soon as he realized what she was doing. She had always had a thing for his hair. Sam had thought maybe she would have liked it better neater, but it didn't seem like that was the case. He ducked his head in shy, silent amusement, dark hair loose from it's careful, neat style thanks to Ruby and easily falling into his eyes with the gesture.
"I was hoping we could talk," Sam finally said. "About us, I mean." A pause. "We've been through a lot lately, Ruby, and I feel like...I feel like this is important. This talk. It's - we should do it, right?" He turned on he bed a little, moving so that he could look at Ruby a little better. "You've come a long way since your manipulative, let's free the Devil and kill people days, you know? And that's great and I love you all the more for it, but I still feel like..." Sam released a heavy breath and shook his head, swiping a hand through his hair in frustration. This proposal thing? It was a lot more difficult than he thought it'd be. "Look, I love you, okay? We've been through hell and back over the past year, we've grown closer over the months we've been living together, and yet that's not enough for me. Not anymore. I need something else here, Ruby. And I think you do too."
There. He got started. Now Sam had to follow through and finish this thing. He could feel the weight of the ring in his pocket, begging to either burn a hole through it or be taken out. Either way, it was there and it demanded his attention. Sam reached in and grabbed it. He didn't pull it out - not yet - but Sam did wrap his fingers around it tightly, considering his next step as he waited for Ruby to react to what he'd already put out there.
