Tess took a moment to absorb what she’d seen. “Hellflame, you called it?” She eyed his skin and clothing, a little surprised to see that the fire hadn’t turned him into a pile of charred bones. She imagined that, at least sometimes, super powers didn’t have to make sense. This was exactly why she shied away from sci-fi books and movies.
“Where am I from...” She raised her eyebrows a little. “It’s kind of complicated. I’ve lived one life on a planet called Antar. The other I spent kind of roaming here on Earth, but a few consecutive years in New Mexico.” Tess left out that she’d lived, specifically, in Roswell, New Mexico. An alien taking up residence there seemed too cliche and she didn’t want to become a punch-line around the complex.
“Where did you come from? Before you arrived here, I mean.” Tess’ hunger was getting to her once again, so she reached behind where she stood to grab an apple. It was amazing how hungry one could get after a near death experience.
