bonnie bennett knows what death looks like ([info]thatwitch) wrote in [info]wariscoming,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:bonnie bennett, caroline forbes, damon salvatore

Who: Bonnie Bennett, Caroline Forbes, & Damon Salvatore
When: June 2nd, 2010
Where: Lawrence, Kansas: Starbucks
What: Caroline and Bonnie meet up so that Caroline can explain what's going on to Bonnie, when Damon decides to crash the party.
Ratings: TBD!

Bonnie wasn't sure what was going on, but one minute she had been driving down the streets of Mystic Falls, Virginia and the next she was in Lawrence, Kansas. The second she had stopped recognizing the streets, she had pulled over and asked the nearest person where she was.

When she got her answer, she tried calling her friends and family and had failed to reach them. So instead of giving up that easily, she had sat down at an internet cafe, logged on, and found a forum that looked like it could help her after typing in 'Ending up in Lawrence, Kansas and having no idea how.'

After bypassing various Wizard of Oz related sites, what she found...was unexpected. All she knew was that Caroline was going to be here any second and that she had the answers that Bonnie was looking for. Because she wanted to know something about what was going on before she tried to drive back home to Mystic Falls.

"Damon," Caroline said cooly, and almost warningly. She knew all she had to do was say one word to Buffy, and that would be that - not that she was planning on doing that. Actually, she didn't even want to, but she wasn't about to own up to that.

She looked back at Bonnie and sighed slightly. "Apparently, getting back home is impossible. Damon's right, we're in another world. If we went back to Mystic Falls - I don't think anyone we know would be there."

It made her heart sink to think about it, and it terrified her too. Was everyone okay, back home? Was Katherine still there? Was she still after them? What about Matt - was he dating Aimee now? And her mom - Caroline couldn't believe it but she almost missed her mom.

"I don't know about good," Caroline replied, glancing at Damon. "They did let you in didn't they?"

She looked back at Bonnie, almost at a loss at what to say. She could tell her friend was uncomfortable - and she understood that, really she did. A part of her wished that she could just hug Bonnie and cry. She was a vampire, she was dead - a monster even. More than anything she wanted her best friend, and she wanted to go home.

Caroline hesitated a moment, and pushed some hair behind her ear. "Bonnie, do you think there is a spell you could do - to send us home?"

"What complex?" Bonnie asked, showing exactly how much she knew about this place which was almost nothing outside of what they told her. "I've only been here and that internet cafe before this," she explained, pressing her palms to her forehead to relieve the sudden headache she was getting from this strange information overload.

It was a lot to take in, but she was getting the gist of what as going on and being told that they were in an alternate dimension was somehow scarier than the fact that there was an apocalypse going on.

Breathing deeply, she sat up straight again and nodded with resolve. "I have Emily's grimoire in my car..." She trailed off, realizing she didn't want to explain how she was practising her magic in the woods before she had got here and lessen any hope that Caroline might have about going home. "I still think we should try to head down to Mystic Falls ourselves first."

“Then we all go.” Damon looked from Bonnie to Caroline and back. “I’m all for us being allies as long as we’re here and as long as we’re all buddies I would like to keep the two of you safe.”

Yes, he was dead serious. Those words coming from him seemed almost uncharacteristic, but he meant them. Damon had his reasons for being civil, the biggest one being his desire to make it back home alive. Still, even back home, he never really hated either Bonnie or Caroline. It would have been a great misfortune to wind up stuck in the middle of the Apocalypse with two people he loathed.

“Maybe Emily’s grimoire has something helpful.” Damon leaned over the table a little more. He was silent for a moment or two and then looked at Bonnie. “How was Elena when you saw her last?”

"The complex, is kind of like a safe house," Caroline replied. "They've got wards or something that can keep things out. A lot of people are staying there," she hesitated for a moment. "I'm not though."

She glanced back and forth between Bonnie and Damon. It was funny, sitting here in a Starbucks with the two of them. This never would have happened at home, but then that was the point wasn't it? They weren't at home.

"We could try the driving thing," Caroline nodded. Hadn't the Bella girl who was Team Damon tried to do that? Caroline hadn't been paying much attention - maybe she should have. "It couldn't hurt right?"

A faint smile tugged on her lips when Damon mentioned wanting to keep them safe. Then he asked about Elena and her stomach plummeted slightly. She was desperate to know about home, but at the same time she was terrified.

Bonnie stared at Damon for a second, a look of confusion on her face before the wrinkles smoothed out at realization. "Just because you're playing nice so I can help you get home doesn't mean I trust you, Damon." He saw her as a ticket home, that was obvious, but she still wasn't used to him attempting to be nice. Damon and nice, as far as she was concerned, didn't belong in the same sentence. "But if we're going to try driving home, I rather know where you are instead of guessing."

Shifting away from him as he leaned over, she answered his question for Caroline's benefit rather than his.

"We haven't really spoken since the school carnival," Bonnie explained, looking down at her melting coffee. "After I tried to kill him," she said, jerking a thumb at Damon, "And the thing with Carter," here Bonnie was a little less accusatory, but still obviously upset with what Caroline had done, "Elena and I haven't spoken much. With Katherine around, everything's a little tense. But you should know that because for some reason I can't even begin to fathom, Elena's still talking to you," she said, this time directing a glare at Damon.

"So when do we want to try this?"

Damon frowned a little, noticing his inquiry’s effect on Caroline. He imagined that this was even rougher on her than it was for him. She had to deal with being torn away from her home, her friends, and on top of it all she was a new vampire. He nonchalantly moved his hand over and gave hers a small squeeze. Damon wasn’t entirely a heartless monster.

The sympathetic smile vanished from his face, though, as Bonnie let it slip that she’d tried to kill Damon. It wasn’t completely unexpected, but unpleasant nonetheless. Bennett witches had it out for him. Even Bonnie’s Grams had known that Damon was the evil brother of the two.

“I would hope that she’s still talking to me. We did share a fleeting moment of lovers’ bliss.” He said, in reference to the kiss on her doorstep.

Caroline was slightly startled by Damon squeezing her hand, but nevertheless it did make her feel a little bit better. It especially helped when Bonnie mentioned Carter. Caroline felt sick to her stomach. She hadn't meant to kill him, really she tried not too - and at the same time, thinking about Carter made her think about blood and that made her hungry.

She closed her eyes for a moment, just like Stefan had taught her and tried to focus - desperately hoping there were no visible signs of hunger on her face. She opened them a moment later when Bonnie said Katherine. Just hearing that name scared her.

"Damon," a thought crossed her mind, a horrible, awful thought. "What if it was Kath..." she stopped herself from continuing the sentence. "Never mind," she quickly turned her attention back to Bonnie. "As soon as possible. Maybe you should rest before we go, get some food and supplies for the trip?"

“It wasn’t Katherine.” Damon rolled his eyes emphatically. “I think I’d remember what it was like kissing Katherine. Always tasted like blood.” He stared off into space for a moment, remembering the moments he’d shared with Katherine. What an idiot he’d been, blinded by some stupid feelings for that killer who had turned and ditched both him and his brother. Yet, somehow, he still harbored feelings for her. He felt like such a sucker for that reason.

“I can get some things if you don’t have the funds.” He offered, trying to be helpful even if help meant compelling store clerks to give things to him for free. He meant well, at least.

"Elena still talking to you? I don't think so, I mean you killed Jeremy. Or at least, you tried to," Bonnie said with a scoff. She wasn't aware of the alleged kiss, but she was sure Elena would never go near Damon, not like that and especially not after Jeremy.

She split her look between the two of them, feeling slightly distressed at Caroline's obvious discomfort and then more than slightly confused when Damon showed a hint of concern.

That would never get any less weird.

Clearing her throat to hide her confusion, she explained, "I'm not hungry or tired." Which was a lie, but she hated showing weakness in front of people. "I just want to get on the road and back home as soon as possible."

Caroline's eyes widened. Damon had tried to kill Jeremy? She stared at the older vampire for a moment, before turning her attention back to Bonnie.

"Bonnie, please," Caroline asked, softly. "You should rest a little. We need to plan this out. Stock up on supplies, maybe," she paused. "Weapons? Just in case."

As much as she desperately wanted to go home, a part of her was saying that driving to Mystic Falls would do nothing. Their friends and family wouldn't be there - nothing they know would be there. And then they'd just be stuck. It was scary, and she hated herself for thinking that way, but she couldn't help it. After all if going home was possible - why were there so many people still here? Including fictional people.

Still, it didn't hurt to at least try right? There was no harm in that.

“Please,” Damon scoffed. “Jeremy can be annoyingly emo, but I’d never kill him for it.”

But Bonnie would know better than him. She was further along in the timeline than he was. This bothered him a little. He silently scolded his future self, if in fact he had done such a thing. This wasn’t because he cared a whole lot about Jeremy Gilbert, but because he knew that by harming Jeremy he would ruin any chance he had at being Elena’s love.

“I’m sure we can gather some weapons. People in the complex, as I recall, are very concerned with their own safety. One of you will have to ask, though.” Damon knew that anyone who knew who he was would give pause to loaning him any sort of weapon.

"How are you even going to try to lie about that? You know that Elena won't even say your name right now or acknowledge your existence right now? You were lucky Jeremy had that ring on or else he would have been dead," Bonnie said, looking in disbelief at Damon. She didn't understand that they hadn't all experienced the same things yet, so she could only assume that he was lying for Caroline's benefit.

Looking at the blonde, Bonnie sighed and nodded. "Fine. I'll rest and then we'll get some weapons together. Where are you staying? A motel? Because I'm not staying at that complex if you're not staying there." She offered Caroline a tentative smile.

Because even if her best friend was a vampire, she was so Caroline, it was sometimes easy to forget what she was now.

Damon rolled his eyes at Bonnie.

“We’re each from different times. You must be from a time where Jeremy did something unforgivable to me. I clearly had my reasons.” He mumbled his defense, really wondering for a second what had possessed him to do something so incredibly stupid and impulsive.

“Whatever happened,” He spoke up in a normal tone of voice. “I’m not that Damon so you,” Damon jabbed a finger in the air, pointing it at Bonnie. “Don’t blame me.”

“I supposed it would be ridiculous of me to mention that my apartment has a guest bedroom.” He cocked his head to the side and smiled at Bonnie. There was no way in hell she would stay with him and he knew it. It was fun, though, to watch her react to the things he did.

Bonnie considered Damon for a moment, before shrugging. "Whatever." She already considered him a liar and a murderer for many more reasons than Jeremy's almost death. She wasn't up to arguing about his current level of evil, even if what he was saying was true.

"You're supposing right, Salvatore. I rather sleep in my car," she said with another roll of her eyes. "I'll figure it out. I can be ready to leave in a day or two. I'll look through the grimoire in the meantime. Think you two can get ready by then?"

The only reason she wasn't counting on an easy fix with a spell was because she doubted it would be anything but extremely complex and energy draining. And she had seen what powerful spells like that did to people with her own eyes. Her grandmother had died and she wasn't looking to follow quite yet.

Caroline glanced back and forth between Bonnie and Damon, feeling increasingly uncomfortable. She felt a tight knot forming in her stomach, and she wasn't exactly sure why.

"I'm staying with someone," Caroline replied. "I can ask if you can stay too," she left out the name for now, more for Bonnie to feel comfortable. Damon had crashed one party, it might be best for both his sake and Bonnie's, if Caroline filled her friend in later. Then again, would Bonnie even believe her when she said who she was staying with? "It's safe, he's safe, I promise. He's kind of been looking out for me."

She almost wanted to kick Damon under the table, to try and get him to be nice. But what would the point be?

"A day or two sounds good," she nodded. "I also don't think it's a good idea of getting weapons from the complex, the last thing we need if this doesn't work is them thinking we're trying to start a war or something."

Bonnie was oblivious to what Caroline was feeling right then, having fallen out of tune with her friend's emotions long before she became a vampire. That was Bonnie's fault, even if she didn't realize how much it hurt Caroline.

For a moment, she considered taking Caroline up on her offer before she decided that it would be better for everyone if she was alone when she went through Emily's grimoire. "No, that's fine. I'll check into a motel." She had enough cash for a day or two and that's all she really needed until they left for Mystic Falls.

If Mystic Falls was there.

"We'll need weapons though. What if we explain what we're doing?" Bonnie asked, lifting her straw to her lips and getting nothing but melted ice. She looked mournfully at her empty coffee cup and sighed.
