Jessica closed her eyes and prayed as the phone rang once, twice, then three times. If no one answered, she had no idea what she was going to do next. She was stuck in...Kansas? without a car, without money, with nothing but the clothes on her back. Sam's phone was out of service. She wasn't sure if she had been the victim of a crime or a prank, but every moment and every strange thing was making her more uneasy.
Something here just wasn't right. She couldn't put her finger on it, but something was stirring in the pit of her stomach, picking up vague signals around her that things were not as they should be. She needed a familiar voice right now, something to ground her back in reality, to ease the growing fear that was spreading like ice through her veins.
And then the phone picked up. There was no answer, but a glance at the screen of her phone told her that the call was, indeed, connected.
"Hello...?" she said, embarrassed by the shaky quality of her voice. "Is someone there? Please, if this is one of Sam Winchester's relatives - God, I hope - please, this is Jessica Moore and I'm...this is going to sound so strange, but I woke up somewhere in Kansas and I have no idea how I got here..."
There was more to say, but as whoever had picked up had not yet said a word, she would wait to find out exactly who it was.
