Who: Elle When: Around dinner after the happy plot Where: Elle’s apartment What: Elle’s world doesn’t seem to exist anymore and she’s pissed.
Since her arrival not very long ago, nothing had gone right for Elle. As if it wasn’t bad enough that her assignment had been interrupted by her being dumped in Lawrence, she’d made an absolute fool of herself during the ‘happiness’ debacle. All she could think was that her father would be furious with her. She had built her reputation up by doing simple tasks for the Company. She had done immoral things to people much like herself, but it was all worth it just as long as her daddy was proud of her. If he ever caught word regarding her behavior in the Kansas town she couldn’t imagine what he would do. Elle feared that she might once again find herself in a Company facility, untrustworthy and disrespected.
Elle perched herself on the edge of her bed, typing furiously on the keyboard of her notebook computer, trying to look up old contacts she’d met working in the field. It was absolutely frustrating to find that there was no trace of any of them ever existing. Even more irritating than that, Primatech, the Company’s cover, seemed to be a legitimate paper company. Paper.
Elle’s toes curled up in her shoes. She balled up her fists and squinted her eyes shut tight, letting out a cry of distress. Though she usually had excellent control over her ability, she found the lights in her room flickering and browning out for a second or two. She heaved a sigh and shook her head. Elle had to find a way back home as soon as possible.
