Some people enjoyed the quiet of the early morning to go running in, the world before everyone got up and started moving around. For Vi, it was the way she woke up. There was nothing better (except maybe after a long and tiring week like the one they'd just had) then getting up before the sun rose and getting in a good long run. She also loved the slow transition from the darkness of night to the warmth of the early morning. It may have only given her a few hours of sleep after a nighttime patrol but it was worth it. Besides, that was what naps were for.
But the quiet was a take it or leave it thing and when she'd piqued Jack's curiosity about running in the morning, she'd gladly taken the company. Time flew faster when there was someone else around, even if he wasn't quite a morning person yet. Every little grumble brought an amused grin to her face as she changed up their route every morning, weaving through residential and shop districts alike before looping back around to the complex.
Today, however, she had something else in mind. There had been nary a word that she would consider "grumbly" from Jack, which she felt was worthy of a reward. So instead of heading back for the complex, she adjusted their route to take them to a little nearby diner that she loved. The interior was modeled after a 1950s diner, complete with signed pictures on the walls of legends of music and film. Even the music fit the era.
Slowing down her pace, she turned to face Jack. "I thought we could do breakfast this morning," she explained casually. "My stomach has been rumbling since we started."
