John was quiet standing next to Dean. There were so many things he wanted to say, and should have said. But until tests were run, he was determined to keep his mouth shut. Dean wouldn't believe anything he said until after the silver, holywater, and rocksalt. John couldn't blame him. Infact if he were on the flip side he would have reacted the same way. And a part of him wanted them to do it. All together. John was still not sure it was real himself. He'd been through half a century of torture in hell, and then a period of silence inbetween. If asked where he'd been, he wasn't so sure he could answer. Was that what heaven was like? Or was it the step under. He honestly didn't know. Alastair hadn't been there, so it was better then where he had been at least if anything.
He heard the sound of the impala and saw Sam. Immediately a silent wave of relief washed over him. Sam wasn't dead. At least he didn't thin so. Judging by the state of things however as he looked around he couldn't be sure of anything. The family that tested together-and all that jumbo. His eyes momentarily met Sam's in a knowing parental way. He didn't smile or crack under the pressure he was also feeling internally, he merely stood beside Dean and shifted his hands into his coat pocket.
The Impala was safe. They were all safe. His family was alive. Temporary relief was caught by surprise s there wasn't just one figure of Sam, but a second with him. Someone else? He looked at Dean as if he might have had a clue, but he'd been dead as well. How could he possibly? John felt this overwhelming need to hug both his kids. They were both alive. But the tension was thick enough to cut with a knife.
His eyes were tired, but they were his. No trace of demon darkness in them. No strange or sudden movements to spook Dean, he just waited. Honestly John wanted to meet them a little further down the beaten path, but he didn't want to seem strange. He wasn't trying to set them up for anything, or appear to be. Things were bad enough as it was without him isolating them. So he stood his ground. There weren't many people out anyway to begin with at least. The question of what the hell happened kept pawing at his mind. "They're here. " He finally spoke to Dean once the Impala's engine went silent.
