They just beat down a small army of demons. He should have been happy. Should have been thinking about how crazy it was. How insanely fast it all happened, but his mind was somewhere else. Somewhere it belonged, back home. With his son. He was supposed to pick him up from school that day he ran into that demon with Ruby. It was going to be his weekend with the boy. Parker had it all planned out. They were supposed to go to the zoo. See all the animals. Especially the monkeys. He liked monkeys. He wondered if his ex wife's new boyfriend was there instead. The thought made him bitter. Made him jealous. Someone else was getting to spend time with his son and he usually came out the bad guy. She always managed to make him feel like he was a bad father. This new boyfriend was no different. She'd threatened a few times to block his contact with Parker over it, he still had the messages on his phone. The situation was wearing on him.
There was a beer sitting beside him untouched, and a plate of fries. Quirk he'd picked up from Ruby apparently. Beer and fries usually did go well together, it was a good combo but he wasn't hungry. He hadn't touched either item, only looked down at a picture of his young five year old son in his wallet. Booth knew it was pointless, but he took out his phone and scrolled down the list of contacts. Parker. It was his ex's home number. He had to try and hang onto hope somehow.
Dialed. waiting. waiting. Static.
Booth stared down at the phone coldly. Tempted, very tempted to set out the phone and shoot it. He carelessly left it on the counter and closed his eyes. His head resting against his good arm as he poked at the plate idly. It was hard for him, harder than he'd willingly let on in public. He felt like he was being torn apart sometimes. Now was no different. Flicking a French fry he winced as it hit the person sitting beside him, and quickly tried to look away innocently.
