She was listening. That was better than nothing, at least. Still on guard, but a little less tense, Sam nodded and carefully gestured around them with a hand. "If Castiel is right, all of this is happening because we're being screwed with by something. He's got the ability to detect demons -" At least Sam thought that was how it worked. "- so I think he gave the city a sweep and found out that no one was possessed. Ruby did the same thing. She can see if a person is possessed. Demons have the ability to see one another's true faces, remember?" Sam carefully knelt down and dropped his shotgun onto the pavement at his feet. Showing Jo his hands, Sam carefully stood upright and shot her a pointed look. "I see black eyes. Right now. That's what I'm looking at when I see your face, Jo. But I know that it's really you in there. You have to believe me."
He did, too. It was an intimidating thing to take in when he knew that Jo shouldn't have looked that way, but that was exactly what Sam was seeing. Black eyes didn't look right on her. If he could have exorcised a demon away and be done with it, he long since would have. But Sam knew better now. He cast a wary look at the gun in her hands. She wouldn't shoot him. Sam knew that. Even if she did think he was possessed, she wouldn't risk injuring Sam. Taking a little comfort in that fact, Sam bit down on his lip and looked Jo in the eyes.
"You got any holy water? Throw it at me. Rock salt too. It won't work, Jo. I'm not possessed."
