The motel room was dark. Did that mean Sunshine had yet to arrive? A flare of concern immediately erupted through him, making Sam half consider doubling back and searching for Sunshine himself. She had seemed legitimately afraid when they had spoken on the boards. Something told him that, even with the threat of demons running through the streets, Sunshine likely would have taken the first exit out she could find when given the opportunity. Maybe she hadn't found the opportunity yet? Or, Sam thought grimly, maybe she ran into some trouble on the way over. The thought of Sunshine and the child that she had vowed to bring along getting caught up in some violent attack made Sam halfway turn back for the door again. He could cover the distance between here and the location she had given him easily. All it'd take was a little caution and a lot of - wait. Sam froze. Water. The sink was on.
Without thinking twice, Sam reached out for the switch on the wall. His fingers groped out blindly in the dark until he felt the switch smack against the palm of his hand. Immediately, Sam flipped it upward - light erupted from the ceiling, easily flooding through the entire room and bringing the figure standing near the sink into Sam's vision. He tensed at first, the gun in his grip dropping down into both hands and immediately turning in the direction of...ah. That must have been Sunshine. Inwardly cursing himself for getting caught up in that brief moment of panic, Sam put a hand up at his side and carefully moved to prop the shotgun up against the wall. "I'm sorry," Sam immediately apologized. "The light wasn't on. I didn't expect to find you standing here in the dark." And even with the light on, that was practically what Sunshine was doing now. There was an overhead light that was built into the half kitchen/half bathroom area that Sunshine was currently standing in, which made it difficult to make out most of her face even with the help of the light fixed in the main room. He could make her out just enough to know that there was someone there, but Sam certainly couldn't see her eyes.
Or a child, for that matter. Another wild streak of panic flooded it's way through him without warning. "Where's the kid?"
Something had happened. There was no boy. Had they gotten attacked on the way over after all? Had Jacen realized that Sunshine was trying to escape with the child in her company? Sam didn't want to let his mind think the worst of the man, but he didn't know him. Not by much. All he knew was that Jacen Solo seemed to have an interesting perspective on certain things, which certainly didn't make communicating or working with him easy for most. Had he refused to let Sunshine leave with the boy that had been in their care? Sam was seriously beginning to hope so. It was better to leave a child in the hands of a potential madman than in the hands of a potential demon. Some would disagree. They would claim that mad was mad and that Jacen, former bad guy that he was, happened to be incredibly powerful. But they didn't know demons like Sam did. Unless, of course, Jacen was a demon right now. Then they were really screwed.
