"He tries a football tackle, I'll block." Jo responded absently, her eyes on her feet as she carefully walked across the parking lot with Ruby. She was convinced that the damn 'cute' shoes were torture devices designed solely to snap in a crack and cause her to break her neck - and it would be a miracle, in her opinion, if she made it through the night without killing herself on them. When Ruby started talking about her history with Sam and the restaurant, her eyes rose and looked over at the brunette, somewhat thoughtful.
"He's right, you know. Everyone should have a birthday. Even you." Before they could say anything more, a familiar voice called out behind them, and Jo paused to look over her shoulder, and smile at Eliot. Her smile grew a little as she looked him over, one eyebrow arching.
"Hey, Spencer. You clean up nice." It was her way of relaxing, the joking. She pushed a few blond strands out of her eyes, tucking them back into the clip that Mindy had insisted on, and waited for Eliot to reach her and Ruby. "Thanks for coming." The words were for more than just joining her for chaperoning, they were also for the coming to the dinner in general. "And don't you dare laugh."
