WHO: Gabriel and OPEN!
WHAT: The archangel is a little depressed about his family going to war. Shh, don't tell anyone.
WHEN: Afternoon.
WHERE: Lawrence, Kansas.
RATING: PG-13 to start.

Thousands of years hiding away on this planet and not one person had ever known that Loki - the god of laughs, the lord of giggles, and the master of all deadly tricks and games - was far from the simple Trickster that he had been dubbed as over time. In fact, the creature that was Loki had existed long before death had been a funny way of giving people what they deserved. He had been there right at the beginning of time, existing not as a devious god, but as one of the most respected and powerful archangels to have ever lived. Of course, things sort of went downhill from there. Lucifer fell out with the family, his siblings all split in opposite directions, and Heaven no longer felt much like Heaven anymore. As such, the archangel Gabriel took the first opportunity out of Heaven that he could get his hands on and recreated himself, forever hiding away from the family of angels that would never again be the same. He had been able to hide for a long, long time. But now, with Lucifer clear out of his cage, Gabriel was beginning to lose it. Even a random house falling on a woman obsessed with ruby red shoes hadn't been enough to make him feel better that afternoon; he hadn't been able to take the slightest bit of amusement out of his accomplishment, instead trading off the emotion for a sense of pure...nothing. Gabriel felt empty inside at the sight of two feet sticking out of the side of the wrecked home and he knew, right then and there, that something was very wrong. He wasn't right on the inside. The world wasn't right either. Lucifer was out, the war was starting, and everything that he had ever loved was going to be ripped apart and destroyed because his idiot brothers couldn't talk things out and get along like normal people.

Killing people wasn't enough to entertain him. So Gabriel instead parked himself on a bench outside of a small shopping center, two hands planted on either side of his face as he stared at the sidewalk miserably. He was going to sit on the sidelines and watch his family self-destruct. Even after all these years, isolating himself from his siblings had done nothing to blind the amount of emotion he felt whenever he knew that they were standing on the opposite sides of the battle lines. For the second time in history, Gabriel was going to do nothing. The thought alone practically killed him on the inside. It was like one of his gags. What better way to kill a man who loved his family more than anything in the world than to watch them rip each other apart from the inside out? He was a coward for not standing up to them, so in his own way, Gabriel supposed he too was receiving his own just desserts. Ha, ha, ha.

Dawn needed to feel normal again. She hadn't for a while, even before the demon had possessed her. First there had been her boyfriend disappearing. Then her sister. Then had come the possession. She barely even had anyone left from her world here - mainly just Xander, and he was usually busy hanging out with Babs. Not that Dawn minded all that much, of course, but she got so lonely without having her friends or her sister around. This wasn't her world, and these people, while some of them had become her friends, just hadn't shared her life and experiences and couldn't understand.

So what did she do to try and feel normal? She went shopping. Using some of the money her sister had given her a few weeks ago, she had gone out to the stores and now she had two bags in each hand as she stepped out of a clothing store and glanced around for a bench to set things on so she could organize herself. The only one that had any room at all held a man who sat by himself, and after a moment, the sixteen year old headed over.

"Hi, mind if I share your bench for a second?" She gave him a bright smile, fumbling with her bags.

Gabriel was considering going out to China for a while. There were a few Asians out there that he could attempt to torment; maybe if he went about it the right way, he could manage making himself feel better. The only reason he had been sticking around in Lawrence was because of the Winchesters - wherever they went, interesting things seemed to follow. Besides, Gabriel knew what parts they had to play in the upcoming fight. If he stayed close, but far enough to observe, he'd be able to watch things from afar. Gabriel could never step between his siblings, but he could certainly hide away like the coward he was and watch things play out from afar. Not exactly the role one would expect from an archangel, but Gabriel wasn't much like the others anyway. He never had been, really. Rather than shrugging his way all the way across the world, Gabriel looked up in time to see a young girl approaching. He knew her on sight - Gabriel had done plenty of research about the residents of Lawrence, particularly those who had been brought here through the seal - and suddenly he felt like maybe he ought to try tormenting her instead. She was much more interesting than the Chinese.

But, then again, he wasn't really in the mood. This sort of thing only happened once every thousand years or so and, man, it was hitting him hard this time. He could have scared her off. Gabriel probably should have. All he had to do was tell her who he was - or who they thought he was - and the girl would scatter. Rather than doing so, he slid over to the opposite end of the bench and gestured for her to take a seat.

"Don't crazy kids like you go shopping with your buddies anymore?" She seemed to be alone. That was never a good thing in this city, especially not for someone in her position. Dawn Summers. From a world filled with vampires. Intriguing, but not the kind of entertainment Gabriel was looking for.

Giving him another smile, this one edged with gratefulness, she slid onto the bench and set her bags on the ground. "Thanks." She shook her hair out of her face absently, then slid her wallet into her purse. The teen reached down to the bags to begin moving things around, though her bright blue eyes shifted to him when he spoke.

"Sure...I just -" didn't want to deal with the others right now, because they aren't Buffy or Willow or Tara- "wanted to spend a couple hours alone." One shoulder lifted in a light shrug as her attention returned to the bags, distributing the weight a little easier. After doing that, she pulled out a small pack of M&Ms and sat back, opening them to spill a few into her hand. Since he'd been nice and let her sit with him, she held out the candy.

"Want some?" It was followed by another smile - she really was making an effort to quit being so sad anymore.

Being alone was no fun. Gabriel, after all, had spent more time than he could remember being alone. Sure, he had found company in a few beings that were powerful in their own religious right to help him get through time, but it wasn't the same. Nothing had ever been. "Why? Seems to me like a girl like you would enjoy being with her friends and family." Dawn Summers, from what Gabriel could see, relied heavily on those around her. Buffy, in particular, was a strong factor in her daily routine. Yet the last that Gabriel had checked, Dawn was completely without her sister. Maybe that was partly why Dawn was here on her own. Maybe she didn't have anyone to go shopping with her because she too was without her family. Gabriel turned his head the other way and rolled his eyes, almost childishly. The last thing he needed to do was go around comparing himself to a little girl.

But then there was the offer of a snack. Gabriel tilted his head to the side, that pensive expression of his immediately lightening up in part at the sight of the M&M's that Dawn pulled out. Chocolate. There was not one thing in the whole damn world that Gabriel loved more than chocolate. He found that was one of the perks of rolling with humanity. He got to eat whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, however he wanted. He was pretty sure that chocolate was almost considered a sin upstairs because it was just that delicious, but Gabriel loved it all nonetheless. He nodded at her offer without hesitation. "If there is one food in the entire universe that I will never turn down, it's chocolate. Hit me up, kid."

Kid. Yeah, Gabriel was sitting around, sharing chocolate with human kid. His brothers would have been completely amused. He probably should have just taken the candy and vanished. What? Stealing candy from babies - yes, babies, because compared to him that was exactly what Dawn was in age, if even that - was completely on his level. He was not above it in any way, shape, or form.
