====================================

Damien remembered when Piper, Prue's sister, had agreed to his request to make dinner for both himself and Prue. He had just today made the arrangements. It would be another date. He was fond of these gatherings. Since the tragedy he had witnessed, even though it was temporarily (it certainly felt final at the time), he felt himself become even closer to Prue Halliwell as far as his emotions went. He would even go so far as to say he loved her, which was a new feeling for him.. he rarely had cared for anyone. But this was different. Very different. There was no way he would ever lose her again. Not after finding her and opening himself up to her like he had lately. Which was quite rare, he never let anyone close enough to see how he truly was, not even his former followers back home. Though they were mostly considered a "work" type thing anyway. As far as personal things go, he had always been a bit private. He didn't usually brag. Not that he didn't have reason to. But he felt that it was more effective when others praised and boasted of him rather than doing it himself. Plus words weren't usually needed, though he did say thanks to those who deserved it, like those who helped him before. He found actions much better than speech. Such as occasionally leaving food or snacks for the community kitchen. Though due to the recent influx of rain candy, he didn't have to.

Tonight, he had decided on a dinner of the Italian variety. He was told that before that Prue had a particular dish of that food style, so he simply let Piper do it since sisters always knew what each other liked best. Once the cooking was all done, once the food was finished and he said thanks, he had waited about ten minutes and set the table alone. He had nice dinners before. At his mansion when he had servants, like butlers and maids, as well as personal cooks. So he technically had a good idea for how to set the scene. he two plates were set down, covered by a metal lid. Silverware in place beside them with napkins. Ah, but there was more.. he had candles lit on the red tablecloth as well. Not to mention.. there was just a hint of lilac cents in the air. There was most definitely a romantic feel to the area. But then, he was always good for setting the stage and making arrangements beforehand. And what was here now, these were all things that he knew his girlfriend had liked from their talks together. He had agreed on the time once he knew when she was available and immediately went to work on it, though with the help of her sister who was a very gifted chef. It had not taken him long to get ready himself either, as his hair was done perfectly to his satisfaction, and wearing a blue silk shirt and blue unwrinkled slacks. Anyone who would have said he looked like he was going on a date.. well, they would be right. And everything was in their proper place right now, so all he had to do was wait for her to show up at the door...

To say that Prue had been a jumble of emotions recently would be an understatement. It was PMS on steroids and then jacked up on X. Death was something she'd experienced before, but it wasn't exactly something she liked. Death was her greatest fear now, ever since she'd showed up in this world, death had replaced water and losing a sister as her worst fear. It was a good thing Barbas hadn't shown up, otherwise Prue would have shock white hair and be in a morgue somewhere by now. She knew she wasn't easy to get along with right now, and she did feel bad for subjecting her sisters and Damien to her emotional rollercoaster, but she couldn't exactly help it. And for the first time since after Andy had died, she really let herself cry in front of people. She had cried in front of her sisters while sitting between them on Phoebe's couch devouring ice cream. She'd cried in front of Damien before, most notably being when she had been dying in front of him. But she knew none of them blamed her for her mood swings, she was dealing with a lot and coming to terms with her death back in her home world. Still, dealing with sadness and agony wasn't her strong point. There were few times where she let herself cry, but ever since Cara had brought her back from the dead, she found she couldn't really stop crying for long unless someone got her mind on something else.

By now, Prue had a better grip on her emotions. She could get through a whole day at work without taking a break to lock herself in the bathroom until she composed herself again. But things were still going through her head, mostly the part about how she was exactly like her mother. Her entire life, she had striven to not turn into her mother. She always flinched at compliments where people compared her to her mother. Despite it all, she now knew she really had turned into Patty. At home, she had died young, leaving Piper and Phoebe behind. Her death here made her finally face that and try to come to terms with it as best as she could.

It definitely helped that she had Damien. It was in the few moments before she died that she had realized how she fully felt for him. She didn't need Phoebe to tell her she loved him anymore, though she was sure her sister had picked up on that fact before then. Prue was really looking forward to her date with Damien. After she finished work, she went back to her apartment to shower and change into a nice elegant but simple black dress. She left the accessories to a simple silver chain necklace and a silver bracelet. She brushed her hair out and left it long, adding a dash of her favorite perfume behind her ears and the inside of her wrists. When she finally deemed herself ready, she grabbed a little white envelope which contained a surprise for Damien, then headed up to his apartment and knocked on the door. She knew she probably could just knock then walk in, but she would rather be polite at the moment. Even on the other side of the door, she could all ready smell the food. Chicken Marsala, it was unmistakeable to her nose. A warm smile curved her lips.

Damien had not been sure of how to react when he had seen his girlfriend cry in front of him. He understood it, certainly. At the same time that he understood that there was nothing he could have done to stop the demise from happening. He had caused so many before himself, but this had been one he was unable to stop. And then when Cara had come and restored her... Damien was very relieved. He probably would have went to a bad place psychologically if it was permanent. To be honest, he really didn't know what he would do if she was truly taken away. Or he did know. He just would rather not have those kinds of thoughts for now. All he wanted was to be here for her, be a gentleman, be the good boyfriend that he knew he could be, support Prue in any way that he could.

He had a few tears himself, but only in private. Only when alone in his room or about to sleep. But out in the open? In public? He was casual and sort of happy. Or so it appeared. He was good at using appearances to hide his true emotions. The last time he had cried was when he was 13. But now.. he was getting a better handle on it, his resolve strengthened. Prue Halliwell was alive. The woman that he... loved. He had not yet spoken the words, but he hoped they showed in his actions. The one person who could understand him, relate to him, and there was no way he would let her go or allow any harm to come to her. Though it was also a good thing that he usually didn't need to since she was a powerhouse herself. He had seen her abilities in action before. Several times, in fact. He liked seeing it. And he knew how effective her telekinesis would be. He was confident in her use of it, but he also thought that he could at least be around to help her when she needed it, along with her sisters too.

Damien smiled brightly once he heard the knock at his door. He knew it was her. Mostly because there were only one or two others who would have come to his door, and he had already spoken to her about the time to come over. And the food was clearly ready to eat now. Pleased that she had good manners as he did, the young man opened the door. No doubt she would catch the scent of lilacs. Hopefully that would please her as much as the food and company. "Prue, you're here... I am glad. Just in time for a wonderful dinner. I must say, you look very striking tonight. I like the outfit, it looks good on you." Though it would not be long until she could probably tell who made the food. He stepped aside then, holding the door for her. "Please, do come in... everything is all ready for you. For us."

Psychology was never her strong point, she was more geared towards history and photography. But she wasn't in need of a shrink to tell her she was traumatized. She still had nightmares about being flung on that rebar. Sometimes she felt phantom pangs of pain where it had ripped through her. The only things that made her feel better were Damien and her sisters. Being with them and feeling their arms around her reminded her that she was in fact still alive. There were times she woke up in the middle of the night in terror, thinking for some moments that she was dead.

Prue had always had trouble with her sleep in one way or another. She was always the target of sleep demons or even her Astral self would take over and not give her rest. But this was something different all together. It wasn't a demon and it wasn't her Astral self, nor was it a spell. It was simply the trauma of what she had gone through, and she had a good idea Damien and her sisters shared that in some respect. Though she knew Damien must have taken it very hard since she'd died right in front of him. He didn't show it, but she wasn't exactly going to pry and get him to talk about it. She herself wasn't really one to talk about sadness and pain. Instead, she took comfort in his company and focused on the here and now.

When he opened the door, she smiled warmly at him, giving him the once over. "Thank you, Damien. You're looking exceptionally handsome tonight. Blue becomes you," she said warmly. She stepped inside when he moved out of the doorway. The scent of lilac reached her and her smile widened as she looked at Damien. "I smell lilac. It seems that you have gone all out for this dinner. Not that I'm complaining." She grinned and chuckled. Prue was definitely a high maintenance kind of girl, and she had a sense Damien didn't mind catering to that one little bit. Prue really admired the way Damien cared so much about his appearance. "I do have a little something for you," she said with a little secretive smile.

Damien found that he and Prue had a shared interest in history. He was always fond of history. Especially that of wars, governments, civilizations, and world leaders both good and bad. He had been taught about them at length while attending the military academy for six years, though he mostly just suddenly knew things before the teachers spoke on them (which may or may not have freaked them out just a little). He used to be able to recall any detail about any of those.. specific details not in the books. Things he technically should not have had any knowledge of since they were of a private nature, such as their last words or thoughts, or what the day was like, or what they had worn last, or other specific secrets they had thought were taken to the grave. It seemed that when he came through the seal, he had lost that particular ability. It was just as well, though. He had other talents to utilize. And he had. Quite often. He found that it was sometimes fun being able to affect your surroundings without having to use one's hands. Made things easier that way.

Though lately, he had been thinking about the latest assault. Especially where she was concerned, he wondered if there was a way to just scrap that rebar and the metal near it, maybe put it somewhere else. Couldn't be good for Prue when she saw it. He sort of felt the same way about churches, he always felt a little twitchy around them. Not just because of his origins; it was mostly due to the fact that his first foster father dragged him in their years ago, with less than innocent intentions, with the purpose of murder, based on preconceived notions about destiny that was fed to him by religion and society. It was one of his big secrets. And he was very private and selective about revealing those anytime soon. He had not yet spoken of that ordeal to anyone. But maybe.. well. He wasn't completely sure he was ready to tell Prue about it. If anyone could know, she would probably be it. He felt there was a strong possibility that she could be trusted with it, that she'd understand. He'd thought so; the church didn't exactly have the best track record where witches were concerned either, and witches weren't all evil like most fanatics thought. Ahh, fanatical zealots.. he was pleased to not meet any here except for late nights on TV for some laughs. He had been considering telling her, which was actually a big step for him. He usually wouldn't have even a passing thought about that event or even the notion of speaking on it. But due to the recent temporary deaths, it made him a bit more contemplative than usual.

Damien smiled back at her compliments when she finally arrived, chuckling as he knew he usually preferred black. But he was alright with blues. And red, sometimes purple too. He could probably even do white, but only for special circumstances, like for another job if he found out there was an opening. It would be a dream come true if he found something on the corporate level of employment. He did like praise as well. It was usually deserved anyway, as he tended to put a lot of work into his looks and actions. "Thanks, though I'm not the only one who looks good. You're rather striking yourself." He arched a brow, hearing that last part, closing the door and walking over to the table. He asked with a smirk, "Oh? You mean.. besides yourself, yes? I have to confess, I'm in suspense. Don't get me wrong.. I like mystery. I can't wait to see what you got me. I also hope you like the food. I have a feeling you're really going to like it."

Their conversations could be quite interesting when they hit the topic of history. Prue didn't have extensive knowledge of military history, so she always found it interesting to learn about it. Her strength rested in art history. She had a very good eye when it came to art and artifacts. It was one of her strengths when she'd worked at Buckland's Auction House. But her knowledge wasn't just on one period in history or a specific continent. She could identify artifacts from all over the world and be able to tell fakes from the real things with one look. It was also this talent that had helped her get her job here. Prue was inwardly grateful she had plenty of experience to fall back on since she technically didn't exist in this world. And if there was anything she could do, it was talk her way into getting what she wanted if all else failed.

It did feel a little strange to Prue being so open with someone that wasn't one of her sisters, but she was getting used to it. She felt so natural around Damien. He made her laugh and feel special. Those were things she really hadn't felt since Andy had been alive. Despite her many failed attempts at dating between Andy's death and arriving here, she never really had been open or comfortable around anyone. Well, except perhaps for Bane, but Prue knew he was a bad man, and he was bad for her. Which was probably the whole reason she was attracted to him in the first place. She did have a thing for bad boys. There was that boyfriend she had when she was 17 that had beaten her up. Prue couldn't help but be surprised at her luck in dating. All of the guys she'd dated, with the exceptions of Andy and Damien, had been assholes of some sort. Everything with Damien was different than she'd ever experienced before. Sure, they had a very unconventional meeting thanks to some stupid angel that wanted to teach people a lesson. But Prue was really glad she didn't have to hide what she really was from Damien. She was able to share all of herself with him, and she didn't hold back. Well, she did still have things she hadn't told him, such as the abusive boyfriend, but those things seemed so inconsequential when compared to what she was.

Prue grinned a bit at the compliment. "Thank you," she said, her blue eyes sparkling. She couldn't help but always light up when she was around Damien. She followed him over to the table. "Yes, I mean besides myself," she said with a laugh. "Well, no time like the present to give it to you." She handed him the plain white envelope. Inside were two tickets to see Lamb of God on April 29th in Kansas City. The second ticket was obviously meant for her. "I've actually had these since before Valentine's Day, but with all the craziness that's been going on lately, the timing was always off on giving it to you. But I think now is the best time." Prue raised an eyebrow a bit at the mention of the food. "Well the food smells wonderful, so I'm sure I'll like it."

Damien could probably not be able to describe how he felt for Prue, with mere words. Or.. he could. But no matter what he could say, there was likely a much better way of phrasing that could surpass the meaning. And so actions would serve better. And feeling. The context of emotion between them when they saw each other or in the other's thoughts. He found that his guard could be down around her on several occasions thus far. And that was a rarity for him. That was something that, under any normal circumstances, in any other plane of existence, would never have happened. Or if it did? Then it would most likely have been a ruse in order to get him to a place where his life could be ended prematurely. But he didn't feel that with her, with his first true girlfriend that he could be comfortable around. She would never do him harm. Would never betray him. Some voice back in his head deep in his consciousness called him a fool, but he ignored that part of him. He knew the truth and that was enough.

He waited in suspense, clearly interested in what she had for him. He noticed an envelope. Money? Was it several thousand... no. Couldn't be that. He gasped in surprise when he saw it, taking a second to study the name on it, seeing the band logo. Lamb of God. He recognized it as a metal band, and he loved metal music. All kinds of it. That band was named something like that, and that he liked the sounds.. well, it held a bit of irony. But he did like their style. He looked up at her with a smile, the fact that there was a second ticket not lost on him. "Oh.. Prue. I don't know what to say. Thanks, that.. wow. You do know what music I like! That's amazing. I had no idea what the gift was and you surprise me once again. You do know I'm falling for you, right?" He smiled at her then, moving over to the table.

Damien pulled the chair out for her, so that she could be seated first. He was still quite the gentleman. And he knew it was the right thing to do and that girls liked that. Once situated, he grinned and moved over to his seat, which was across from hers. He could smell the food. He then pulled the lids off the plate and noted that it was still quite warm, very ready to eat. "I have a feeling you will like it." He took a few bites at that. "Oh. Oh yes, it's definitely good. I think you'll like it too, no doubt." The young man wondered for a moment if she had this before. If her sister Piper had made a dish such as this back in their world. If so, then perhaps she would realize that Piper had made it, and Damien had arranged it in some way to come to be. He was always good at orchestrating things, at planning. Plus he wanted to do this for her, since she had family here now, that it would mean more knowing that a sister had helped make this occasion memorable.

Being happy like this was something Prue had rarely felt in her life. Ever since her mother had died, Prue had felt obligated to take care of her sisters. From a young age, she threw herself into taking on the role of a mother. She never did have a successful relationship for one reason or another. Prue had a horrible track record when it came to men. She had a weakness for bad boys. When she was 17, during her rebellious stage, she'd dated a guy that had beaten her up. He disappeared not long after she ended up in the hospital, which was probably her grandmother's doing. Then she'd dated a few losers. Andy was the only guy she'd ever told about being a witch, and that had been the nail in the coffin for that relationship. Even though Andy had accepted her, it wasn't the life he wanted. After he died, Prue had closed herself off. She did continue dating, but she'd never really had anything too serious or long term. Not like what she had with Damien now. The way she felt around him was something she was still getting used to, but it was amazing, to put it mildly. Prue could be herself around him, and she found it both frightening and invigorating. There was a voice in the back of her head telling her that she'd lose him too, just like she'd lost everyone else in her life, but she ignored it. She instead chose to live in the moment and savor what was infront of her instead of be scared by what if's and possibilities of what may or may not happen.

Prue watched anxiously as he took the envelope and opened it. She knew he liked the band, but she still was anxious to see his reaction. She had taken it upon herself to look at his CD collection from time to time, as well as his other things he had here to get a better idea of what he liked. She couldn't help but smile warmly as he smiled at her. "You're very welcome, Damien. I have stolen some glances at your music collection, I admit it." She laughed gently, a sparkle in her blue eyes. As he said he was falling for her, she felt her heart leap in her chest and beat a bit faster. "That's good because I'm falling for you, too." She gave him a warm smile and followed him over to the table.

She took her seat, thinking he was such a gentleman as he pulled her chair out for her. When he revealed the food, she took a few moments to admire the food, then she looked back up at him. "It smells delicious, and I am very hungry." Smelling the food only made her hungrier. She did wonder if he made this himself or not, but in the current moment, that wasn't really important. All that mattered was that they had food and she was hungry. Prue took her napkin and laid it across her lap neatly, then picked up her silverware to dig into the food.
