Ron looked up from the board, eyes finding a familiar face. He didn't know the woman very well, but he had seen her around the complex plenty of times before. That happened often, he found. He saw loads of people running about, but he didn't know many of them at all. It was interesting speaking to one of them every now and again, even if Ron didn't understand some of them sometimes. Muggles were strange enough; people from different worlds entirely were even worse off. "You don't understand what? Chess?" Ron raised his brows. "It's not very hard, honestly. Once you get the rules down, that's it. Fairly simple." Ron gestured to the board. "I take it that means you've never played before?" It was rare when Ron actually met someone who didn't know how to play chess. It never failed to shock and amaze. Bill had taught him how when he was a young boy, so Ron was more than used to the game. Just as flying on a broom had come naturally to Harry, playing chess was something that Ron had taken to as easily as walking on his own two feet. But better, since Ron could be sort of clumsy on his own feet sometimes.
"It's loads more entertaining when the pieces move," Ron commented with a shrug. "I haven't quite figured the proper charm for it though." He rubbed at the back of his neck, somewhat sheepishly. "I always was rubbish in Flitwick's class." Not that she would know anything about that. Ron brushed his ginger fringe out of his eyes and gestured to the spare chair. "Care to give it a go? It's more entertaining when I'm not playing against myself." It'd also be more entertaining if Ron had the chance to play against a formidable opponent. Though he wasn't against spreading his knowledge either. Who knew? If this woman wasn't all that experienced with chess now, she might learn a thing or two from him and take it to it well enough in good time. That'd liven things up around here for him a bit, at least.
