Re: Downtown: fire and blood and games, oh my!
Clark had no idea what either Jacen or Jaina were capable of. He knew that they were powerful, which was more than enough of a warning sign for him. Clark might have been strong in his own way, but he had met plenty of villains who had been able to challenge him before. If there was one thing he wasn't going to be doing - especially in a world that was not his own - it was underestimate his opponent. Clark had never thought that he would have ended up standing against one of their own before, but things were changing now. The demons were closing in, they were abducting people one by one, and they were causing chaos. Why they were being so open with their destruction was something that Clark couldn't pinpoint; he had always thought that Lilith wanted them to be as subtle a possible with their abductions. It made sense, didn't it? They wanted them. They always had wanted them. The more powerful, the better. Now that Lilith had her hands on two of the most powerful beings on their side, Clark really didn't see why either of the demons possessing them were bothering to waste their time around here. Unless Lilith had ordered them to kill them all. But why throw away all of those bodies that were capable of so much? It didn't make sense to him. Something wasn't right about this picture and, if Clark had anything to say about it, he was going to figure out what the problem was as soon as possible.
Until then? He had the obvious issue to take care of: Jaina. The last he had checked, she was off trying to start fires. He was pretty sure she meant it in the literal sense too. It was why the second she had decided to taunt and challenge him, Clark took off and began a desperate scavenger hunt for the demon in question. He had no leads outside of the fire, which meant that he had to rely on his abilities to help him figure things out. Even so, Clark might have been able to move faster than the speed of sound, but he couldn't do everything at once. All Jaina (or not Jaina, to be specific) needed was a couple seconds of time to start up a deadly fire. She'd need even less to kill an innocent. Even though the odds were entirely against him, Clark Kent couldn't accept the possibility of someone dying at the hands of the monster possessing Jaina. He spread himself thin, speeding through the streets in a dark blur that went by practically unnoticed by most of the city's civilians. Clark was desperate enough to commit to this seemingly impossible search - he had a hero complex, after all, and he wasn't about to stand around and do nothing when there were lives on the line.
It was only by sheer luck that Clark caught a whiff of the scent of gasoline in the air. He fell to a halt just outside of a shopping center, eyes turning toward the building suspiciously. Setting his gaze into a sharp focus, Clark switched on his x-ray vision and peered straight through the walls and into the building beyond. Bodies were scattered all throughout the upper floor. All of them save for one. Jaw tightening in anger, Clark broke into a run and sped his way for the top floor. The demon possessing Jaina had to be up there. It'd explain the gasoline.
