This had to be some kind of horrible nightmare or something, some kind of... something, it couldn’t be real. Except it was, and she knew it. Everything was wrong, Jacen wasn’t right anymore, he’d gone from something like trying to be normal to ... to this, to dark telling her everything he’d done and so coldly, telling her she’d killed him, blaming her like she’d done it just because, like she’d even done it, because that wasn’t her, that was another her, a future her maybe, but not her.
And now he was going to kill her.
Jaina arrived at the address Jacen had given her feeling all kinds of anxious, emotions surging and overwhelming her and she didn’t know how to tamp it all down - she’d tried, but it was too much to push back, control, ignore. It felt wrong, being scared to see her brother, and she kept her arms folded, deliberately keeping her hands far from the lightsaber hanging at her belt. She didn’t want to look like she was looking for a fight. She really didn’t want to hurt him, but if he attacked her, she was pretty sure she wouldn’t have any choice but to at least try to defend herself for as long as possible.
The demon meanwhile was loving his assignment. Every bit of it. This guy. This Jedi whatever was surging with a power he’d never even be able to understand. Oh but he could tap into it. The lightning Jacen had used to waste his buddies meatsuits. That had been pretty damn awesome. And now he’d come to get his sister. The demon had a sister too, as much as demons could have sisters. She’d always been around, he thought maybe he had to have known her before the rack, before the past all faded away. She wanted a Jedi too and he could hear her now, ducked out of sight, in a temp body waiting to move up to the big leauges. They were to be distractions. Get the Solo’s and cause all kinds of dark side crazy. And it had been so freakin easy. This Jacen guy? He was messed up on levels even the demon hadn’t seen. He hadn’t even had to lie once. Not once. He just told the sister some of the things he’d done. And hell he hadn’t even gotten to Fun with Planet Burning yet.
He’d stood, looking all impressive and Sith Lord but without the creepy heavy breathing mask as the sister showed up. Jaina. She was a tiny little thing but by all accounts packed a hell of a punch for it. He’d have to push some more buttons, see what he could get her to admit to, see if there wasn’t some darkness in her. Jacey-boy had felt a surge of it a long time ago when he’d been kidnapped by a bird. The demon had looked over that memory a few times. No. It really had been a bird. This guy’s life really was just that weird.
“Jaina” he’d said, pushing all the dark broody tone this kid was capable of into that one word. “How do you want to do this. Should we talk you and I?” Jacen was very wordy. The demon had noticed that too, all full of speechyness. And he was ranting like a brat in the back of his own mind. The demon kind of wanted to punch him out. Or failing that shut him down. That was proving far from easy though.
“What is there to talk about?” Not that anything else was a good alternative, but she honestly wasn’t sure what he wanted to discuss, what he could possibly have to say that would make this better, how he could manage to make this worse, what the hell there is to say. “I mean, I don’t want to fight, but, what else is there to say?” It feels like tempting him to tell her something worse, opening herself to whatever knives he has to throw at her next... but she doesn’t know what to do, wraps her arms tighter around herself, holding herself together as best she can when everything else is falling apart.
“Oh its not all Aunt Murdering and broken promises. I mean Kyp Durron took out a star system I just managed to burn most of one planet. Its alright though Ben helped keep the fires burning longer before trying to kill me. And the Wookies recovered. More or less” he said, finding the sardonic cocky smile of Jacen Solo far too easy to bring out. He wasn’t...proud of it, nah thats not the impression the demon was getting. More resigned to his evil, doing what had to be done. But that was boring. This demon was going for out and out pride. And Jacen could do that well too when he wanted. He really had struck gold on how to get the sister. It was fish in a barrel. “There’s nothing to talk about sis” he said, “I got to thinking, last few days while you were off reliving your flying glory days on inferior ships that aren’t even ships. And I worked it out. I shouldn’t have to keep picking up after you. I was always the strong one. The hero. Ever since Anakin, you were the screw up. Vergere called me the Living Jedi Dream did you know. Or did the Sword of the Jedi always know her only destiny was as a murderer”
The demon laughed and let force lightning trickle between his fingers, he loved how it felt. “Now we can do this the easy way when you give in and I think about teaching you one day. Or you ignite that blade and we do this the usual way. Only this time. I’m better, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
“You-” She cut herself off, clamped her jaw shut and looked away, down. She couldn’t do this, didn’t want to hear his words cutting through her defenses - Jacen was probably the only one who could manage this, winding words aroudn her, telling her things she didn’t want to hear or think about, things she should never have had to know because they shouldn’t ever have happened. Anyone else, she’d be able to roll with it, figure out the next step and go from there. Him, though - he was her other half, her broken half, but she didn’t know how to fix him.
His ultimatum was met with a defiant look, and she took a step back without reaching for her lightsaber, “What if I don’t pick either option?” She wasn’t going to turn, and she wasn’t going to fight him, wouldn’t be the one to make the first move if a fight had to happen. She’d defend herself only if it felt like she had to, but even that... she wasn’t going to survive, fighting Jacen. Not when she was this upset, not when he was so much older, stronger, darker than she was. He wouldn’t hold back, and she wouldn’t ever be able to deal a blow, let alone a fatal one.
She may as well run herself through with her own blade - killing Jacen would be fatal to her, she was sure of it. Or at least, it would be if he were her Jacen, but she was pretty sure it would have the same sort of effect, one way or another. She’d feel it. She’d break apart, spiral down, and she couldn’t do that.
She watched from the shadows, shifting and twitching in this body, excited and waiting. The body she was in was wrong, way too old and gray and boring, the teeth weren’t even real. It’s her first time in a human, it’s her first time topside at all, she wasn’t sure if they’d let her come but they did, and she’s with Big Brother, and it’s all going their way - she can feel the cracks in the armor around the girl breaking, feel her power and her weakness and she thinks that body is going to be so much better, if he can get that amulet off her she can get inside where it’s softer, not tough and wrinkly and sore like this old bag of bones is with her bad knee and her arthritis and her fake teeth, and then she can do her part to set Daddy free, her little part, she gets to help this time and it’s the biggest thing to happen ever, in as long as she can remember, anyone can remember, it’s the end of the world as they know it, and the start of something better
““I suppose that if you don’t do anything it’ll just be much the worse for you in the end” he said coldly watching her and wondering how to do this the easy way so his sister can join him in a body of someone like his, so strong, so powerful. They could do wonders together, like the old days. That was after all the job wasn’t it. Be distracting. Be loud. That’s what Meg wanted from them, and oh how they could do it. But first he had to shatter all her little illusions about the brother that had fallen so very far from grace. The brother that had destroyed himself. It was a sad little story he could read in Jacen’s mind between the glimpses of out and out rage. Jacen had all sorts of fun thoughts about how he’d kill the demon controlling him, rip him apart, such inventive tortures, the demon was sure Alastair would have been impressed with the man. But Jacen could be shut down if the demon wanted. It was just that he didn’t. He was kind of revelling in the darkness, why should that stop?
“This is how its going to be sister dear. You’re going to fight me, or else you’re going to let me in to your head and I’m going to show you why the Dark Side is stronger, and believe me when I say that it is. In every concieveable way. You’ll see the things I did and you’ll understand why. You’ll accept it because I’m Jacen, because I’m your twin and because I would never lie to you. Because everything I tell you is the truth and you have to understand the Force the way I do. Choose and Act” he said, quoting Jacen’s old teacher in another attempt to get to Jaina. There were so many ways to infuriate the sister. As he spoke though, he stepped forward, bit by bit ready to grab the amulet from her and have his sister possess her. If only she’d get over the ridiculous angst about her evil evil brother. Truth was Jacen sometimes liked giving in, he didn’t have to fight it then. And the demon was more than happy to oblige him.
“What’s your answer then Jaina. Your brother, or your failed ideas about what the Force is?”
Jaina didn’t step back as he moved in closer, held her ground and remained still. Something wasn’t right, here. Something was off, something in Jacen was off, and it didn’t feel like what she’d thought the Dark Side felt like. She’d felt the Dark before, felt it first-hand and from afar and this wasn’t the same as that. Similar, laced through with Dark, but... not the same.
This felt more like when she’d spoken to Ruby.
Jacen wasn’t wearing his amulet.
She should have paid more attention when they’d been teaching her how to deal with demons, she realized - because she knew the general idea, she knew salt would keep them away, holy water and some kind of exorcism would work, but she hadn’t memorized it, and the notecard with the words scribbled on it was back in her apartment, and she wasn’t exactly carrying salt and holy water around with her.
“Christo.” She didn’t exactly know what she hoped to accomplish, calling him out on this like she was, but at least then she’d know if what she was dealing with was even her brother anymore. She almost hoped it wasn’t, because it would be far easier to deal with possession than it would be to deal with him really being so broken.
The word had the effect it always would on a demon, his eyes flashed black and he twitched, stepping back as if almost fleeing from its power. So the little bitch had learned her lessons had she. It wasn’t going to save her from possession. Meg had pointed to them both. The brother and sister to control the brother and sister and he wasn’t about to fail in this task that would aid in freeing Lucifer. He’d to anything as would his sister. It was what they were, loyal. Unlike little sister Jaina, There was a part of Jacen that felt an irrational betrayal from his sister and he would use that, he’d use everything. “Fine” he said angrily, almost at a snarl. “So I’m not big brother, not really. Not yours anyway but thats not to say that every single word isn’t true. He killed Mara in Hapan Space. Planet called Kavan. There was a cave there. And oh that fight. It wasn’t a duel it was a brawl. It was an out and out dirty brawl before he poisoned her. ...Oh that’s right, it wasn’t even an honorable death like maybe she deserved. No, he stuck her with a poison dart and told her how he was going to control the Galaxy and corrupt her son to the dark. What a way to go huh?”
The demon laughed as it inched forward again and finally reached out to grab the amulet, the power of his own telekinisis and Jacen’s incredible power combined, even with the voice screaming at the back of his mind about revenge and hate and destruction. He’d get all of those things, just not the way Jacen...or was it Caedus back there, wanted. “Come on out sis” he called as he pulled the amulet away and jumped back again in case the Jedi tried anything. He had all of Jacen’s memories and Jaina Solo was dangerous. Never to be underestimated, even this younger Jaina. She could do incredible things when threatened or angered and he’d just revealed he’d taken over her brother and spilled the horrible secrets of Jacen’s past and her future. Jaina might do anything and his sister hadn’t taken her over yet.
“Want me to tell you more of the truth?” he asked, keeping a few steps ahead of the Jedi. “How about Ben, in the Embrace of Pain, how about Tahiri. Or firing on the Falcon. What story do you want?”
Everything Jacen - notJacen, the demon - was saying was like knives in her chest, thats not to say that every single word isn’t true and they’d told her demons lied, they’d told her they lied to make you think things were bad, to cut holes in your defenses and bring you down, but they hadn’t mentioned that sometimes they tell the truth. And sometimes, the truth is worse than the most hurtful lies a demon could think up.
The grab at her amulet caught her off guard - she hadn’t thought this demon would be trying to get her possessed. She’s assumed if it already had a body, it was just out to kill her, so it didn’t seem like a threat and then she was open, cord snapping and she stepped back now, hand to where the amulet should hand and eyes going wide as he called out to someone else, as he kept talking, more horrible truths she didn’t want to hear...
Big Brother called her, the amulet that kept the girl from her falling away and she burst out of the old woman’s body, screaming broken old voice and the woman crumbled to the ground, didn’t move, probably dead. She’d had a bad heart, probably couldn’t take the strain. Oh well.
She was disembodied for a moment, cloud of roiling black smoke, diving straight towards Jaina, and then in. It was too easy, now - maybe once, the girl could have fought her off, but now she was broken, cracked chipped dented damaged and there were tons of little gaps in her defenses, it was so easy to get in and then she was Jaina Solo, Sword of the Jedi, standing in front of her brother Jacen, and she grinned and bounced excitedly on the balls of her feet a little.
“So much power in here, brother! Can we keep them?”
He watched, proud of his sister as she dove toward the Jedi girl, and took her over in one easy swoop since she’d left the body of that dead old hag. She’d deserved better than that after all. So much better. And now here they were together again in bodies with such power, such capacity for darkness? Oh they weren’t going anywhere even when Meg was done and Lucifer rose. Oh no. This was their home now. “We can keep them” he told his sister and looked around before firing a bolt of lightning at a nearby wall.
“I’m never giving this up!” he told her “Try it, tap into the darkness, she’s got some. Not as much as mine. No no, she fought hers. She didn’t let it take her over like he did but its there. He felt it once, a long time ago for him. Not for her. Feed into that darkness. Make it stronger and you’ll be able to do what I can do.”
This is what they deserved, the two of them. This was what they’d deserved ever since he’d found her on the Rack and known. Just known that they were siblings. Finally they were getting their chance.
