Narrative, unless anyone wants to talk at her.
Someone hadn’t gotten the memo that Shay was no longer staying at the complex. Or, maybe, they’d gotten the memo that she wasn’t wearing an amulet and that was all that mattered. In any case, an up-and-coming demon, little more than a pit imp, really, working her way through the ranks, one of the ones designated to keep an eye on the complex’s stragglers had taken a keen interest in Shay.
Eunice, who was now the demon, had been met with glass ceilings all her life, which was why she’d made the deal that sent her to hell in the first place. And she was met with more glass ceilings in Hell than she’d ever run into on Earth. But that was all about to change, this girl, this arrogant, pushy little girl, had power. Sheer, animal power, and Eunice could only imagine what that body would be capable of under a demon’s control, and not just any demon’s control, her control.
She’d been keeping an eye on the girl for the past few weeks, knew that Shay no longer lived at the safe house and had never worn an amulet against possession. Stupid, reckless, strong. All things that she was going to make good use of in short order, she just had to wait for the girl to be sufficiently distracted since she knew she’d only have a few moments to leave the homeless man she was currently puppeteering and take over Shay if she wanted to do it without a fight.
Shay paused to make sure the laces on her shoes were tight, she was going boarding and had to make sure everything was secure, it wouldn’t do to have to catch herself just because her shoe fell off. Her brow furrowed at the sound of a raucous cough, turning to make sure the homeless man on the bench wasn’t about to cough up a lung, because that would just be disgusting. She realized too late that that cloud of smoke around him wasn’t cigarette smoke, and by the time she realized it it was already upon her, searing her throat and nose, even her eyes. For a brief moment she was reminded of her first day back at the Smoke, realizing that it was named for the wood smoke permeating the place more than because it vanished whenever the Specials came looking.
That brief moment of clarity was all she was allowed before the demon shut her down completely. Eunice smiled, stretching her fingers, getting herself acquainted with everything that this new body had access to, oh this was going to be fun.
