Who: Dawn Summers When: Tuesday morning Where: Public library What: Dawn gets possessed! Status: Narrative; complete
Dawn, while she appreciated her friends trying to cheer her up with movies and ice cream and pizza, was growing sick of it all. This wasn't the first time her sister had disappeared from her life, yet every single time was as bad as the first. Coupled with the fact that her boyfriend had also left, she was in pretty bad shape right now. She was just so tired of losing people.
Again.
She had decided to leave before Brynna or Richie or anyone else came over to 'check' on her. Into a messenger bag went a notebook, her ballet leotard and toe shoes in case she felt like going to the studio later, and, of course, various weapons: a small dagger, the taser Buffy had given her for Christmas, and a bottle of holy water. She slipped out of the complex early and was glad that there was no one else around to stop her, or offer to do something with her. She couldn't stand the pity that she knew she was getting. She would much rather be in the classes, fighting. Or maybe even actually fighting.
Twenty minutes later, she was sitting in the Lawrence public library, a book containing Sumerian legends in front of her, with the English version open beside it. She had decided to work on her languages, since at the moment she didn't have anything better to do. Since it was still early, not even nine am yet, the area she was in was deserted, and quiet. The sound of a book falling to the floor made her jump, and she looked over her shoulder towards the stacks. No one was there, but that could mean that they had frightened themselves with dropping the book, and moved on. The same sound came from the opposite direction, and she faced forward again, a frown on her face.
When the sound came a third time, Dawn pulled out her taser and stood, turning in a slow circle. "I know someone's there. Show yourself." Okay, pretty lame as challenges went, but it got the job done. She then heard the sound of footsteps behind her, and spun again. No one there. Flipping the taser on as she moved away from the table, a cry escaped her as her arm was suddenly grabbed and twisted behind her. She struggled, but then froze when whoever was behind her reached around and showed a knife to her.
"Wh-what do you want?" The person didn't answer. Instead, the knife drifted downwards and caught the cord on which her anti-possession amulet hang. It cut through it instantly, and the amulet fell to the floor. Her eyes widened as she suddenly understood, and she struggled with renewed strength.
"No!" From among the stacks drifted a cloud of weirdly creepy black smoke. As Dawn got ready to scream, the cloud was the last thing she saw.
