WHO: Marian and Robin
WHAT: Marian decides it's time for cake!
WHEN: Afternoon.
WHERE: Their apartment
RATING: There's whipped cream involved. You do the math XD

She hated it when she had a day away from working and yet Robin had to go in. It became slightly boring on her own, and there was little she could do to push away the boredom. She read books, mostly. Especially with the baby she had found herself reading books about the subject. She wasn't told much about it growing up and she felt that she had to know if she was going to go through with it. This way she would know what was the norm for pregnancies and what she should be concerned about. But there were only so many times in a day she could read a book on pregnancy. Putting the current one back, she tilted her head when she saw another book she had bought. Gwen had said it had good cooking ideas in it that were fairly simple and Marian didn't see the harm in it.

Picking up the book, she flicked through it until something caught her eye. Something that looked easy to make and now she saw the picture she really felt a craving for it. Standing, she moved to the kitchen and looked to see if she had all the things she would need to make the cake. She'd been given icing sugar from Gwen a few weeks ago that she hadn't opened; Gwen had said it tasted amazing with or without the cake and Marian was going to trust her on that. Everything else was there too and after following the instructions she soon found herself leaning against the counter top as she whisked the mixture in a bowl, her eyes reading over what else she had to do.

Robin grinned as he strode down the corridor. His last lesson had cancelled, and he was not scheduled in the shop, so he was on his way home an hour and a half early. He had considered calling Marian, but decided to surprise her, instead. The strawberries he had picked up on the way home should also be a nice surprise; it was fantastic to be able to get fresh fruit in the middle of winter. It was not quite as flavorful as what they used to pick right off the vine or tree back home in season, but it was a nice alternative to preserves.

He was especially glad that Marian had a selection of foods to choose from. He had been picking up books as she set them aside; and, while the importance of a good diet for an expectant mother was hardly news even when such a thing was difficult to come by, being aware of what was happening put a whole new spin on it. Between that and medical advances, he was more glad than ever that they had been brought to this time, despite everything that went wrong at times.

Entering the apartment, he slung his bow case behind the door and called, "Hello! Where's that gorgeous family of mine?"

When Marian heard the door open she almost thought it was Much. They didn't mind him showing up at times, they were good at locking doors to keep him away when he wasn't wanted. And he always seemed to sense when food was being made. But then she heard Robin's voice and she put the bowl down quickly before holding onto the door frame as she leaned out to look at him.

"What are you doing home early?"

Not that she would complain about him being home, she missed him when he was away. And it didn't seem like anything bad had made him come home so she relaxed. Pushing herself away from the door frame, she walked to him a placed a few sweet kisses to his lips.

"You're interrupting my fun time," she said with a laugh before walking back to the kitchen and straight to stirring the mixture again.

When she leaned out, he smiled. "Here, I thought it would be a nice surprise. What, are you complaining?"

He was most definitely not complaining when she kissed him, and he laughed at her answer as he followed her into the kitchen, setting the bag with the quart of strawberries on the counter. "I'm sorry to have spoilt your fun," he recited in his least-repentant voice. Leaning over to look in the bowl she was stirring, his eyebrows. "Baking? That's ambitious." Before she could protest, he snagged the book and looked over the recipe. It was not too complicated, but he would personally have stuck to the boxed mix they had in the cupboard.

She eyed the bag when he put it down, rather curious as to what would be inside. But he had to take it out at some point so she would just wait until he did that. Keeping her wrist moving as she stirred, she rolled her eyes at him claiming it was ambitious. She knew they had ready made mixes in the cupboard but she wanted to see if she could do this properly. Gwen could do it, why couldn't she? She made a noise of protest when he took the book, but knew in her head what she had to do next and by looks of the mix there was still a few more stirs until she could put the mixture in a cake tin.

"You wont want any then."

She gave him a grin before putting the bowl down once the mixture was ready. Moving to one of the units, she went on her tiptoes to reach up and grab the cake tin. It took her a few attempts but after a few tries she managed to grab onto it. Going back onto her feet, she pulled down the hoody she had taken from Robin, ignoring the way it had slipped past her shoulder, before fixing her little shorts. So maybe her chosen outfit wasn't the best thing to wear if she was reaching up that high but she hadn't really anticpated that.

"I don't recall saying that," he protested good-naturedly.

Robin loved the scent of cake batter almost as much as that of a cake baking. Granted, it was nowhere near as pervasive-- he had to actually be near it to smell it,-- but that was half the allure. In fact, the reason that was so appealing was that he could do what he did when she turned around, sticking his finger into the goop.

Licking the batter off his finger, he nodded. "Mmm, that's very good." He glanced over just in time to see her snag the cake tin, appreciating the view. Shorts in winter, even with a sweatshirt and long socks, was probably not the best wardrobe decision, but he was not complaining. She had great legs, and it was nice to be able to appreciate them at any opportunity.

"Claiming it's ambitious is enough to hint at such a thing."

She frowned when she heard Robin speak again, turning in time to catch his glance firmly on her legs. She gave a smug grin for a moment before walking over, thinking over what he could have meant. Did he mean the view? But then she noticed his finger was still wet and one glance at the batter made her realise what he'd done.

"You can wait if you want any," she said as she scooped some up on her finger in a moment of inspiration and ran the batter right down his cheek. Grinning, she licked the batter from her finger before looking to the bowl again. Now she had to deal with making the batter go into the cake tin without losing too much of it.

"No, it was a compliment."

When she turned back toward him, he forced his eyes upward, grinning cheerfully back at her when he realized he had been caught. He liked the satisfaction on her face, liked that she was enjoying the freedom modern clothing gave her to show off a bit. And that was not solely for his own benefit, although he would be lying to himself if he said that was not part of it; more than that, though, he was glad she felt confident enough in her own skin to wear what she wanted, instead of being overly influenced by social expectations nearly a millennium old.

Her changing expressions as she noticed what he had done were hilarious, but he went from laughing to surprised as she traced a line of batter down his cheek. So unexpected was the move, that it took him a moment to react, and she had already started to deal with the cake again. Drawing his finger down the side of his face and collecting the batter, he said, "Well, in that case, let me give this back." And, before she could move, he plopped it on the end of her nose.

"Of course it is."

She glanced over at him when he was silent, grinning a little to herself as she continued sorting the cake. She was just about to question him when she felt him tap her nose and the feelilng of the batter landed there. Looking at him, faking annoyance, she tried her best to make him feel guilty. At least distract him whilst she scooped up more and placed it on his forehead, making sure some of it went into his fringe.

"No really, I've changed my mind. You can have some," she said with a grin as she wiped the rest of the batter on his cheeks. There was something slightly childish about this, she knew that, but it made her feel a lot more free for a while. She had, in general, felt free since being here. Robin wasn't one for keeping her locked up or limiting what she could do. But she still had to act like an adult, especially with the baby. It was good to be able to act less like that and do something stupid.

The look she gave him hearkened back to a less-secure time between them... and he did not buy it for an instant. Still, the expression distracted him until it was too late to stop her from plopping more of the goo onto his head; and he burst out laughing when she rubbed it on either side of his face. It felt disgusting, really, but it was such a lighthearted thing for her to do that he could not help but enjoy it.

"You're too kind," he replied, sliding an arm around her to keep her from escaping whilst his other hand went into the bowl. Holding up his hand, dripping with the stuff, he added, "But I could not possibly keep this all to myself." With that, he rubbed it from her forehead to her chin, in one, quick swipe.

She giggled when he laughed, glad he wasn't annoyed at her. Though she really didn't think he would be, if he was she would have to wonder what had happened that day to make him go into such a mood. She struggled when he grabbed onto her, holding her tight against him. Now she was in trouble. She had the units at one side so couldn't easily escape that way and any other possible escapes were being prevented by him.

Her eyes fell to his hand, her nose instantly scrunching up as she watched the batter drip from his hand. She went to protest at his words, but couldn't because soon he was covering her face in the batter and she just about had time to close her eyes. Lifting a hand, she reached for a towel to rub some of it off before looking up at him. She knew it still covered most of her face but at least she had got rid of some of it.

"Really, I insist," she said before grabbing the bowl and, with a grin, she lifted it to dump what was left of the contents on top of his head. Laughing, she dropped the bowl, getting ready to run.

The Marian of some time past might have inflicted pain on him for such a move. He was very glad that was no longer the case, especially since their current stances were having a much, much more pleasant effect on him than her fist in his gut had done. That was something that should go without saying, but the silly thought rather fit the mood of the moment. The way she wrinkled up her nose right before he smeared the stuff all over her face was adorable, and when she had wiped some of it off with the towel, he could not resist.

He was just about to lean in to kiss her, batter and all, when she emptied the bowl on his head. Robin stood there in surprise, rivulets of sugary goop running down his hair and onto his shoulders; fortunately, he realized in time that she was about to take off. Wrapping both arms carefully but firmly around her waist, he said, "Oh, no, milady; I insist." And, bowing his head a bit, he shook it back and forth, sending droplets of batter everywhere-- with Marian at the middle of it.

She squealed a little when he grabbed onto her a lot more firmly than last time. Though she had to admit, watching him with the batter dripping off his face was hilarious and perhaps worth being held captive for. But then her laugh stopped as he lowered his head, shaking the batter out his hair and firmly onto her.

"Robin!" she cried out, pushing against him to try and escape it. Though once she stopped it seemed it was a good idea because a lot of the batter had left his hair.

Shaking her head, she grabbed the towel again to wipe more off her face so it was as clear as it could be without water before doing the same to Robin. Dumping the towel on the floor, she ran the hand that hadn't touched the batter through his slightly sicky hair before pulling his lips down to hers. She could taste the sweetness of the batter on his lips before tasting what was really just him. But it wasn't just for the purpose of giving into that temptation to kiss him. Because whilst he was distracted, she reached back for whatever she could grab first, feeling the unmistakable feeling of flour in her hands.

Now to get a plan in action. Running her free hand down his chest, trying to further his distraction by teasing him, she loosened his belt. So far he seemed to be falling for it. Deepening the kiss to keep up the pretense, she slipped the hand not holding the flour under the fabric before grinning into the kiss as she dumped the flour down his trousers.

He was laughing by the time he finished, and his good humor eased to arousal when she pulled him down for a kiss; he had already been hovering on the edges of it, and having her initiate the move from playful to sensual made it that much better. As she went to work on his belt, he ran his thumbs lightly under her own waistband. Still, he jumped when she reached into his trousers, not expecting her to get that far ahead that quickly.

Nor did he expect a bag of flour to be running down his legs a moment later. Breaking off the kiss, he stared at her for a second, completely shocked. "So, that's how you want to play this, is it?" he muttered as a wicked grin spread across his face. One arm anchored her in place again, while he reached behind her and snagged the first thing he found: an egg. "This'll do nicely," he declared, breaking it near her neck so that it ran down the front of her shirt-- his shirt, but being that she was wearing it, he was willing to risk sacrificing it in the name of revenge. And he was doubly satisfied to notice that not a speck of eggshell had fallen.

Still, one egg did not equal a bag of flour. He spied the sugar, and picked it up. "What goes in a cake, again?" he pretended to muse aloud. "Flour... eggs... sugar..." With that, he emptied the bag down her shirt, trusting that it would make a nice, sticky paste where it mixed with the egg.

She couldn't stop laughing until he got that grin across his face. One she really couldn't trust because it only meant trouble. But he still had a good hold on her and there was no where she could go. When he brought the egg into plain view her eyes went wide.

"Don't you da-" Her words were cut off with a short scream as he cracked the egg on her neck, feeling the egg run down her skin. It made her shudder, the feeling disgusting and ticklish and just in general not very nice.

But then he was picking up the sugar and she shook her head. She found it slightly funny, yes, but she knew what would happen if he added the sugar to the egg currently running down her front. But he did it anyway and she scrunched her nose up as she squeezed her eyes shut at the sensation. After a moment, she looked up at him, putting on a sweet smile.

"We can't forget a topping now can we?" she said before reaching for the bag of icing sugar she had sitting out, dumping some down his shirt. Laughing, she eyed something that could...really end in one way. A way she wasn't going to complain about. Reaching out, she grabbed the can of whipped cream, shaking it before quirking an eyebrow at him as she quickly pulled both his trousers and boxers toward her and pressing the button to realease the cream onto that part of his body.

Robin felt momentarily guilty for the egg-and-sugar attack, and did not make any move to stop Marian from pouring some of the finer sugar down his shirt. Added to the flour still down his lower half, he was now a fairly solid mass of powder-- and that was not even to mention the sticky mess in his hair and over his face. He was about to suggest a shower, since they both needed it (and, it would be fun), when she shot whipped cream into his pants.

Weirdly, his first thought was, what's the whipped cream even doing, sitting out? His second thought was that it was a very strange sensation, neither wholly pleasant nor wholly unpleasant.

His third thought, he hesitated to acknowledge, considering how she had tricked him a minute earlier.

"I think you win," he said, voice rather strained, as he tried to ignore that third thought.

She could hear the way his tone suddenly changed and hoped she realised that was the point in that course of action. Smiling, she placed the whipped cream back on the counter before running her hands up his chest. They really had to get washed, but first there was an area she could help clean before water went anywhere near it. Pulling his lips to hers by tugging at the top of his shirt, she kept their lips together until she was struggling with air.

"I think I do," she said with a smirk when she pulled back. "Now...let's get you cleaned up."

With that she slowly lowered to her knees, releasing his trousers and pulling both them and his boxers down. Laughing at some of the flour that floated into the air, she glanced up at him before moving to start her clean up. This was interesting, she had to admit, and quite a good idea despite not being thought out before hand. It took her longer than it probably should until she pulled back, but then again she had to make sure that there was not an inch of him still covered in the whipped cream. Looking up at him, she smirked a little.

"Tastes really good," she said as she licked her lips, obviously meaning the whipped cream but she couldn't resist making her tone slightly more suggestive than that.

He continued to be half-suspicious of her motives when she pulled him down for another kiss... but that did not mean he would protest. Any chance to kiss his wife was worth whatever mischief she might dish out immediately afterward. His acquiescence was rewarded; it did not take long for him to realize that she was not merely distracting him now.

By the time she had taken care of the whipped cream, he had long since lost the ability to think. Fortunately, that skill returned quickly. Tugging her to her feet, he then scooped her up, snagging the whipped cream can before heading to the bedroom. "I could go for some dessert, myself," he noted with a wink. They would definitely need to launder the bedding after this, but it would just as definitely be worth it.

She laughed as he lifted her up, noting the mess of the kitchen as well as the mess they were in. Kissing his neck softly, she barely took note of what he was saying, just relaxed in his arms. She could still feel the egg along her stomach but it was starting to get soaked up by the waistband of her shorts.

"You'll be cleaning the bed then," she said with a grin when she noticed where they were going, still not fully aware that he held the whipped cream. All she was suddenly focused on was some of the batter that had gotten to that spot just below his ear. Well that wouldn't do, she thought with a grin before lowering her mouth to it.

Awhile later, Robin once again considered suggesting a shower, but was too comfortable to move-- that was, beyond the stuff in his hair and along the sides of his face that was currently deciding to turn into a form of cement. Marian did not have to worry about that too much, with the egg/sugar mixture having been cleaned up as soon as he got her shirt off. But, lazing together as the afterglow faded was worth feeling his hair start to harden into small clumps.

His arm had been resting above his head, and as he moved it down beside himself, it landed in a bunch of fine grit, his fingers bumping against the empty whipped cream can. "Maybe we should just burn the bedsheets; they may be beyond salvaging," he suggested with a chuckle.

She really should have used the whipped cream earlier because the result was fantastic. Yes the bedsheets were pretty much ruined but right now she couldn't bring herself to care. But then Robin was speaking exactly what she was thinking and she couldn't stop the laugh as she looked over at him. The batter was thickening and that made her laugh even more.

"I'll try a wash and if not we can make a fire."

Kissing him softly, she looked at him for a minute before touching a clump of hair, held together by the hardening batter. He'd cleaned her up mostly but she could still feel some bits on her body where the batter had landed, plus the stickiness from the whipped cream and his tongue combined. It was worth it though.

"We should try a wash too, actually."

"We should," he agreed with a laugh. "I'm not so sure about the bedding, though."

Before she could move, he scooted down a bit, placing a hand on her belly. It was still mostly flat, being early days yet, but he already felt a bond with their child, and had taken to talking to the tiny person inside. It seemed to him that he should feel silly doing so, but he did not. "Do you hear this?" he asked incredulously. "I offer an easy solution for taking care of a mess, and your mother makes it a secondary plan. Typical; she has to do it the hard way."

"Maybe I should try hand washing it, just to be sure."

She watched him as he lowered, raising her eyebrow. But then his hand was on her stomach and she knew what he was doing. Resting on the pillows in a way that allowed her to watch, she grinned when he started talking. She didn't care how early on it was, she still adored it. Rolling her eyes at his words. she reached down to prod at his shoulder.

"Try and not turn our baby against me before birth, thank you," she said with fake annoyance. He would know she was only pretending anyway, he could tell her tones quite easily now. "And it's not the hard way. It's trying to see if I can prevent the inevitable." She placed a hand next to his on her stomach. "Don't listen to your father."

"It's not a matter of turning against you; it's a matter of making sure the truth is known," he declared in a jokingly affronted manner. Turning back to his previous conversation, he added, "Listen to your father. Your mother is stubborn, opinionated, and wonderful. And, I reckon you'll be able to hold your own with her, but if not, I've got your back." He winked at Marian.

"Your mother is also kind of sticky, so I'm going to make her wash up now." Placing a kiss on her belly, he got up and held out a hand to help her to her feet.

"The truth being that you're the one who looks for the easy way out," she said as she tapped his nose with a grin. "Comes with the outlaw territory.

She was about to prod his shoulder again until he added 'wonderful', though that was probably the reason behind it. She rolled her eyes at the wink, shifting her hand on her stomach so she was more comfortable. When he brought up making her wash up she giggled at the kiss to her belly before taking his hand and standing.

"Make me wash up? I think I can choose to do that."

"Yes, because life in the forest is so incredibly easy," he commented lightly, glad he could simply make a joke instead of recalling how miserable it really had been, most of the time.

At her protestation, he pulled her in for a kiss. Once he brought it to an end, he murmured, "You could. Or, we could have a waterfight..."

"Indeed it is," she agreed with a laugh. She remembered that short time she lived in the forest and despite having Robin it wasn't the easiest of things to do. She may not be spoilt but she wasn't brought up for such surroundings and she found it strange at first. Then again she settled in eventually before she chose to leave so she could help him better.

She smiled against his lips, returning the kiss with a little more edge underneath it. Something a little extra that let him know exactly what was going to happen in that shower if he was so desperate to make sure she washed away the food and stickiness of the whipped cream.

"Anything sounds good," she muttered against his lips before kissing him once more before taking his hand and heading to the bathroom.
