Since the arrival of his crew Mal had felt more adventurous in the last couple days then he had since his rough landing dropped him in Kansas a couple weeks ago. He was starting to get a feel for the complex. A mental lay of the land. Community kitchen where Simon failed at cooking. Pool where he found River a few stories above. So far no one coming at him with knives. No more threats on his life, but that didn't mean he was about to let down his guard completely. He still wasn't sure where he stood on trust and being grounded literally was not something Malcolm Reynolds was comfortable with for long stints of time. It complicated things and he was not a man who cared for complications. He liked simple plans and easy money. None of which he'd seen hide or hair of on Earth thus far, and he found he was feeling a little twitchy for it. Even more so when people started changing.
At first he thought River might have had something to do with that, but she wasn't that powerful. A reader but not a face switcher. That was a whole new level of weird he wanted to stay out of. So he was doing his best to avoid the foot traffic and got pretty good at knowing the ins and outs of the complex. So he thought anyway. He was faced with a door he'd never seen before, and it intrigued him and worried him all at the same time. He'd been through the complex and found nothing even mildly interesting or worth cleaning out. Behind that door could be one of two things. Something fancifying and eye catching, or more trouble he couldn't rightly afford to deal with now that he had his crew to worry about. Curiosity won out. Reaching out a hand Mal pushed open the door to the security room, a hand down near the large fire arm at his side incase something was in there that wasn't entirely fuzzy wuzzy.
Mal didn't say anything as the door creaked open to the dimly lit room. As if he was trying to see if something was ready to jump out and eat him. He'd like to shoot it first if he was given an option. Who knew what Earth people kept in isolated spaces.
