WHO: Paige Winterbourne and Tara Maclay
WHAT: Witches running into each other at the supermarket
WHEN: Before the shit hit the fan
WHERE: At the supermarket.
STATUS: Closed/Incomplete
Ratings: PG-13

People often forgot one of the best places to find magic supplies was at the supermarket. It was a thought that had occurred to Tara when she was getting some ingredients. A thought that flashed through her mind as she bought herself some Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Not that that was the ingredient. Tara didn't know of any spells that required that much sugar. No. This was more for her physical replenishment than spiritual nourishment.

And they were on sale. So there was wallet savingness. Because -ment didn't seem as if it would fit correctly. Even in her own head.

She was looking through the periodical. Checking what she would be able to find at a reasonable price. Her job always paid but it wasn't the most luxurious job. Which was alright. Tara was an expert on how to make a little last for a long while.

Her attention was on the sales advertisements, that she wasn't quite aware of where she was pushing her shopping cart.

Though she became quite aware when it smacked into someone else's.

Paige hated grocery shopping but it was a necessary evil, kind of like shaving your legs. You hated doing it and you complained about having to do it but you really couldn't survive without it. Well, you could but you'd be hungry and hairy which really wasn't a very good combination.

She was trying to decide on a cereal (this was a very tough decision, did one go with the healthy choice because it was the right choice or Frosted Flakes because they were a heavenly sugar coma waiting to happen) when someone accidentally rearended her with their cart. Paige idly thought that it was a good thing that she had a generous rear end to cushion the impact.

She turned to see who had managed to run into her and had to smile when she recognzed the face of the person in question. She couldn't remember her name but she knew that she lived in the complex and she was fairly sure she was some kind of witch.

Tara smiled in return when she saw who it was. The only reason she recalled who it was because she shared a name similar to one of the complex heads. The woman was new. Well. No. Newer than she was. It tended to blur, unless someone specific to you arrived, to remember when exactly everyone showed up. For example, Tara knew when Mr. Giles and Anya, of course Anya, had arrived to this place. However, all she knew was that this woman was a little later than her.

Not that that was important ... and that Tara had always meant to speak with her. She'd always planned to introduce herself to the witches of the area. To be friendly and because she was curious. And the idea was very interesting. Not necessarily to trade spells, since tapping into unknown sources in an equally unknown world spelled danger with a capital D more ways that Tara could even count. Along with some other not so favorable words. So not really that but to exchange stories.

"I'm sorry." Tara stated. "I was caught up by the bananas. They were calling to me. Threatening me to buy them."

"Banana's can be that way. They probably got big heads since they're the only fruit that has a commercial that's become culturally significant."

Paige had no idea why this girl brought out the seldom seen whimsical side of herself but it was nice. Nice just to say whatever came to her head without worrying how others might interpret it.

"I'm debating whether or not to listen to my colon or my stomach right now," she supplied since the woman had shared with her.

She stuck her hand out, "I'm Paige Winterbourne. I've been meaning to talk to you about how magic functions in your world."

As usually happened when Paige started talking about magic she forgot where she was and that she should probably not say those words in the middle of a fairly busy grocery store.

Tara chuckled slightly. "You'd think they'd be too busy rubbing it for apples and grapes to be threatening." She said in return. Appreciating not getting a odd look for once because of her off-beat comment. Not that Tara wasn't well used to odd looks by now. She still received them from her friends at times. Yet it was always good and nice to spice things up a bit.

"Hmm. Good question." Tara hadn't even really considered that far. Proof positive that the Scoobies had become horrible influences. Well ... in the nature of spreading the love. Though in all honesty, Tara figured a little sugary breakfast cereal never hurt anyone. That she knew of. "I say go with your stomach. If it should be heard at least for breakfast."

Shaking the other woman's hand, Tara's smile widened. A bit amused and a little bit startled by her frankness. "Nice to meet you, Paige. I'm Tara Maclay and I've been meaning to do the same thing. Pick your brain on yours."

"Nah, they're like high school jocks they can be threatening to humans and rub in their superiority to the other fruits all in one fell swoop."

Paige smiled and pulled down the Frosted Flakes. She was glad for someone else's help in making that surprisingly difficult decision.

"Can anyone learn magic on your world?" Paige asked her curiousity overwhelming her, "Or is it heriditary? Does the gender of the practioner make a difference?" Paige had hundreds more questions probably but she suddenly became aware of her surroundings and managed to bite her tongue...just barely.
