Romana really truly hoped she was right. She’d brought a knife just in case she wasn't. Two hearts, and she'd stab them both if he turned on her. And on the journey out to where the Immortality Gate was she agonized over her actions of late. This was the Master, the one who had caused so much grief, so much fear on so many worlds over all of his life. The doctor had told her the things he’d done to various companions, Nyssa’s father, Ace hated him, Leela, and then there was Martha. Martha who had so much reason, who had told her of a woman named Lucy who he’d married, a woman who the Master had said betrayed him. She’d have to look into that later. But she’d made her decision hadn’t she. She was going to help him because no one. No Time Lord should suffer this. Not when there were so few of them left. Just her and the Master and the Doctor. That was all and she owed it to them both to do this. She owed it to Gallifrey. The taxi pulled up to its destination a little way away. Out of sight, and Romana paid the man, assuring him she was perfectly safe where she was and would be fine.

And after a little walking found him, waiting, looking as gaunt and tired and hungry as ever. She knew then, just on seeing him that this was the only way. Fred, Prue, Pheobe, whoever wound up helping her would see it too. They’d understand that no one deserved to be left in this state. And no one, no one at all could find out that it had been he that had murdered people, The murders would stop now and people might well wonder. But let them wonder. There was no proof as long as he kept quiet about it, about it, and the hunger. The thought of keeping such things secret reminded her too much of Pandora for her liking. She was better than that now, much better than that. She needed to do this right. “I think they have something sutible. I think...I very much think this might be it. This might restore you. And you have to prove me right, you just...you have to?” she said quietly, moving toward him, even in this state he was the Master. He had to be watched, you had to keep your guard up. Had to make sure he didn’t get a foothold on you, something he could use. That’s when he was powerful. But Romana’s great hope was that the man learned humility from this. Learned that people were willing to help purely because it was the right thing to do. Because they understood like she did that life was sacred and a half life was a cruel state of being.

Also, they didn’t know half of the things he had done. But Romana was as much a murderer as he was. Andred, and countless others during the war, and during Pandora’s reign. She wouldn’t even blame it all on Pandora. She really had been the War Queen at the end. “They’ll be here soon. And we’ll get this done as soon as we can, alright?” she asked

Phoebe frowned a little at the strange mix of emotions coming from the Master. The nervousness she could understand, but the excitement was a little . . . off-putting, to say the least. At Fred's wave, she offered a smile in return, then concentrated for a moment to try and block out everyone's emotions. They were all pretty crazy-making at the moment.

As Prue took the vial to the Master, Phoebe moved over to Romana and gave her a reassuring smile. "It's going to work, Romana. I promise. I saw it." There was a definite advantage to having the power of premonition. She then rejoined her sister and pulled two small pieces of paper out of her pocket, handing one of them to Prue.

She then took her sister's hand tightly in hers and looked around at the group. "Everyone ready?"

When given the vial, the Master looked at the contents. The color of it didn't look appetizing, but he wasn't going to be picky about it if it would help him. When Phoebe asked if everyone was ready, he nodded. "I'm ready." He pulled the stopper out of the vial and moved over to the Gate. He downed the potion, making a face at the taste. The Master managed to not gag, but the stuff tasted bad. As long as it helped, he'd drink as much of it as needed.

The Master stepped into it and looked over at Fred, who had the controls at hand. Only a couple more minutes and they'd know if this worked or not. With every fiber of his being, he truly hoped it worked. He couldn't live like this anymore, and he really didn't want to use up a regeneration trying to fix himself. Besides, what if regenerating wasn't enough to fix it? He silently waited for Fred to work the machine and for the two witches to do their spell. His gaze turned to them, briefly wondering if they'd do something to mess him up even more. Then he turned his gaze to Romana. He wondered what was going through her head, and he knew she'd be hated for doing this, which would only push her closer to him. All in all, it would be perfect.

She was ready, ironicly she herself didn't have much to do but make sure it all went to plan, she watched him unsure if regenerating really would have helped, she'd given him those regenerations, a whole new cycle of thirteen as reward for helping. He'd helped, he had, before he'd run. And who knew that she wouldn't have run too. She'd done so much back then and he'd suffered as much as any of them. This was just restoring him to what he had been, anything he did after this was on his own head. Of course she spared a moments thought for the people he'd killed. She knew they'd never get justice, she knew it and she hated it but he'd been little more than an amimal, animals killed people and weren't held accountable, didn't they?

"Ready..." she said simply looking across to the women gathered around before returning her gaze to the Master, hoping and praying all the while that she was doing the right thing here. "We can begin" she said and waited for Fred to activate the device and the witches to begin their spell. And for him to drink the potion. His gaze was on her and she allowed herself to smile, just a little. Just to reassure him, She could give him that reassurance.

She waited patiently for Phoebe and Prue to get set up and for the Master to drink what he'd been given. From the look on his face, it wasn't pleasant. In Fred's experience, it rarely ever was. She remembered the little concoction that Lorne had whipped up to return them to their right selves after a spell had made them all mentally teenagers again. It had tasted like what she had decided the bottom of a well worn shoe would taste like if licked. But it did the trick.

Once the Master had taken his place in the machine, Fred felt the nerves fade slightly as she went through the motions she'd just run over several times in her head. Flips switched, knobs turned, the power level hitting the mark that Romana had shown her. Once she was done, she glanced over at Phoebe and Prue, giving them the thumbs up. It was their turn.

Prue watched the Master drink the potion and get in position, then watched as Fred got the machine going. She nodded as she and Phoebe were given the thumbs up. Tightening her hold on Phoebe's hand, mostly out of the fact something in the back of her head kept telling her not to do this, she looked at the piece of paper with the spell Phoebe had written. She began saying the spell along with her sister.

As they chanted the spell, Prue lifted her gaze to watch the Master, to watch as magic and technology came together. At first, nothing but the machine was doing anything. The place where the Master stood began to glow around him with some sort of blue-white energy. Prue forced herself to focus completely on the spell on her paper. She'd been here long enough to know their magic needed a lot of oomph behind it to work in this world, and she was prepared to give all of her strength in this if need be. As she focused herself, she stopped paying attention to what was happening around her. All she was aware of where the words she was saying, Phoebe's hand in hers, and the magic they both were conjuring up.

Phoebe nodded as everyone said they were ready, and then looked down at the paper. She knew the words by heart, but she looked at it anyway to focus her will and her magic, and began to say the words in tandem with Prue. After a moment, she, too looked up and watched as it began to slowly work. The two continued as she tightened her grip on her sister.

This would have been easier if Paige had come too, but Romana had requested that she not bring her into this. While she had some serious misgivings, she had gone along with it for now. Prue and she could handle things if this went bad somehow.

As the glow began to fade, she continued the chant until the end, and when it was done finally, she slumped against her sister's side for a moment, feeling somewhat drained.

As Fred powered the Gate up and Prue and Phoebe began their chant, he closed his eyes. At first he didn't feel anything, but then he started feeling it. The potion he had drank began working, he could feel its power surging through him and it began to interact with the spell and the Gate. But as he stood there feeling the power surging around him and within him, he had a mental countdown going. He had programmed the Gate to imprint himself upon the entire human race one minute after it was activated. Though even if he hadn't wanted to try to take over the world, he wouldn't have been able to keep the Gate from affecting the population of the Earth. After all, the thing was designed to heal whole planets, not just one simple being.

The glow grew intense around him, momentarily blinding everyone. And then it happened.

The Gate flashed and an energy pulse erupted from it and quickly spread out over the Earth, covering the entire globe in only a few seconds. After that energy pulse, everyone on Earth turned into him. Or at least in theory everyone should have turned into him. When he opened his eyes after the glow faded, the four women were still themselves. He had expected Romana to remain herself, but the other three were still themselves. He couldn't help but be confused by that, but before he tended to that, he lifted his hands to his face. His stubble was gone. Had it truly worked?

He stepped out of the Gate and looked at the four women. His appearance was almost completely different. While moments before he had looked so gaunt and like the walking dead, he now looked perfectly healthy, even to the point of having a healthy glow to his complexion. His face was clean-shaven, and his hair was a darker shade of blond. It was no longer the white blond it had been. He did feel different. His hunger was gone. Slowly, a smile crossed his face.

"I think it worked. I feel...alive!" All ready he could feel his strength returning to him. Saxon had been reborn.
